Research Description for Senior Project Associate:
Diabetes affects 10% of Indian adults, with diabetic retinopathy (DR) impacting up to 20%, and irreversible vision loss occurring in about 4%. Current DR treatments have low success rates and are time-intensive. Recent studies in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh revealed potential links between gut bacteria and DR in diabetic individuals.
The DRMS-India project aims to further explore this connection by analyzing stool samples from people with diabetes, diabetes-related retinopathy, and healthy individuals. Participants will provide stool and blood samples at no cost. Stool DNA will be analyzed to identify gut bacteria, while blood tests will monitor diabetes markers and related conditions. The study seeks to understand the role of gut microbiota in DR progression, potentially paving the way for novel treatments.
Essential Educational Qualification for Senior Project Associate:

M.Sc./ M.Tech in Life Science or equivalent

At least 4 years of hands-on research experience in bioinformatic analysis of genomic/metagenomic data
OR -
Ph.D. in Life Science or equivalent with expertise in bioinformatics of genomic/metagenomic data

Upper Age Limit: 40 years as on the last date of application preferred for Senior Project Associate.
Desirable Qualifications:

Experience analyzing DNA sequence data from FASTQ files, especially from human genomic/metagenomic samples using standard pipelines

Proficiency in shotgun metagenomics and 16S rRNA gene sequence data analysis

Working knowledge of Perl/Python, Linux, and R required for Senior Project Associate.

Proficient in English and strong communication skills
Roles & Responsibilities:

Analyze DNA and RNA sequence data from massively parallel sequencing platforms

Summarize data analysis and assist the PI in data interpretation and coordination with other project centers preferred for Senior Project Associate.

Develop new analysis pipelines for human genomic and metagenomic datasets

Manage project-related documents and procurement
Remuneration:
₹42,000/- + 27% HRA = ₹53,340 (consolidated and fixed monthly emolument)
