Walk-in/Online Interview for the Position of Project Research Scientist-I(01), Project Technical Assistant –III(01), Research Associate-I(01), Junior Research Fellow(01) and Project Associate-I(01).

National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri-food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, NABI is involved in research activities for Bio-fortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis.

Post I

1. Project Title: “Deciphering the role of fibroblast growth factors dynamics in experimental models of Alzheimer’s disease.” (ICMR-Intermediate grant GAP-84)

Principal Investigator:

Dr. Mahendra Bishnoi, Scientist-F

Positions: Project Research Scientist-1 (Non-medical) (One position)

Duration: Appointment is co-terminus with the project.

Essential Qualification:

(i) First class postgraduate degree in Life sciences (Biochemistry or Biotechnology) or First class M. Pharm/M. S. (Pharm.)/M. Tech (Pharm)/M. Tech in Pharmacy;
(ii) Second class M. Sc. (Life Sciences) /M. Pharm/M. S. (Pharm.)/M. Tech (Pharm)/M. Tech in Pharmacy with PhD in pharmaceutical chemistry/medicinal chemistry/life Sciences. Aforementioned qualification(s) must be from the recognized Board/University/Institute.

Desirable Experience: Experience in working with rodents especially mice (injection and surgical techniques, primary cell culture techniques, real time RT-PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry with strong knowledge in basic concepts of neuroscience and metabolism research. SiRNA based techniques to knock down/knock out genes in cell lines. Basic understanding of data analysis tools like Graphpad Prism and other bioinformatics tools will be plus.

Responsibilities: Selected candidate will work in close association with the PI on the project to understand the role of fibroblast growth factors dynamics in experimental models of Alzheimer’s disease. Candidate will also be responsible to manage day to day activities for the successful execution of the project, designing of the experiments, data analysis, manuscript writing and progress report preparation.

Emoluments: The candidate will be paid a stipend of Rs. 56,000 + 20% HRA per month for the first two years and a 5% hike in salary for the third year. Selected candidate will have to join immediately.

2. Project Title: To Investigate the Role of Endocannabinoids in Gut-Brain Axis and Differential Role of Cannabinoid Receptors in the Development of Metabolic Dysfunction under the Investigator Initiated Research Proposals scheme, with Sanction No. ICMR/16/1990/SGP-2023 (ICMR-small grant GAP-69)

Principal Investigator: Dr. Mahendra Bishnoi, Scientist-F

Positions: Project Technical Assistant – III (Non-medical) (one position)

Duration: Appointment is co-terminus with the project.

Essential Qualification:

a. First Class Post Graduate Degree, including the integrated PG degrees. OR
b. Second Class Post Graduate Degree, including the integrated PG degrees with PhD. OR
c. For Engineering / IT / CS – First Class Graduate Degree of Four Years.

Desirable Experience:

  1. Prior experience of in-vivo (mice) and in vitro (cell culture) model systems in the field of obesity, type-2 diabetes or neuroscience.
  2. Knowledge Molecular biology techniques including gene expression, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry etc.
  3. Research experience of more than 1 year.
  4. Understanding of analytical techniques such as HPLC etc.

Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be involved in a project aimed at understanding the role of cannabinoid receptor system and endocannabinoids in metabolic dysfunction especially, leptin resistance. This project will use both in-vivo and in-vitro models.

Emoluments: Rs. 28000/- per month plus HRA (As per ICMR sanction letter Sanction No. ICMR/16/1990/SGP-2023).

3. Project Title: “Investigating link between inositol phosphate pathways and iron homeostasis in hexaploid wheat” (NABI-CORE)

Principal Investigator: Dr. Ajay Kumar Pandey, Scientist F

Positions: Research Associate-I (One position)

Duration: Two years (Till June, 2027 (Subject to evaluation at end of each year).

Essential Qualification: Ph.D. /Thesis Submitted in any branch of Life Sciences or Biotechnology or in relevant field with at least two first author peer-reviewed research publications in Science Citation indexed (SCl) journals in the area directly related to the project. The applicant with thesis submission shall also be eligible for SRF and shall be appointed as RA subject to submission of the provisional PhD. degree.

Desirable Experience: Experience in the area of crop-plant molecular biology, genome editing tools and its application in crop. At least two Relevant research publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Emoluments: Rs. 58000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2023)

Post IV

4. Project Title: “Dissecting wheat tissue-type specific iron homeostatic transcriptional responses mediated by basic helix loop helix protein.” (GAP-86)

Principal Investigator: Dr. Ajay Kumar Pandey, Scientist F

Positions: Junior Research Fellow (JRF) (One position)

Duration: The appointment will be initially for one year subject to the availability of funds by the funding agency. Further upgrades will be made on the basis of the submission of a progress report and further assessment.

Essential Qualification:

Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:
a. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR-UGC-NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and/or GATE.
b. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, ICMR, etc.

Desirable Experience: Prior experience in crop biotechnology and bioinformatics will be preferred. Experience in CRISPR/Cas genome editing system.

Job Profile: The selected candidate will be involved in a project aimed at comprehending the significance of molecular determinants associated with IRO3-associated pathways focusing on Fe mobilisation in a tissue-type manner.

Emoluments: Rs. 37,000/- per month (As per DST PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26th June, 2023) plus HRA.

Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Botany/Biotechnology/ Biochemistry /Agriculture/Plant Molecular Biology/Bioinformatics or allied sciences from a recognized University or equivalent.

Desirable Experience: General plant molecular biology and plant tissue culture-related techniques, plant transformation.

Emoluments: The Project Associate I will be hired with the emoluments Rs. 25,000/- + HRA as per rules.

  1. All interested candidates may appear for Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge city, Sector-81, Mohali, Punjab- 140306, on 29-04-2025 at 09:00 A.M. along with the duly filled application form available on the website www.nabi.res.in.   2. Incomplete application forms and applications that are not in proper format may be summarily rejected.
  3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website.
  4. Candidates applying for more than one post can give their preference by writing different designations in the same application form.
  5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/ information in the application form will be considered.
  6. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 29-04-2025.
  7. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.
  8. All the candidates are requested to appear for a Walk-In interview with an application form, experience certificates, publications, and original degree certificates and transcripts.
  9. Original mark sheets, certificates, award/fellowship, etc must be accomplished for verification at the time of the interview, and attach one set of attested copies of the documents with the application form.
  10. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
  11. Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate(s).

  13. In the event of special circumstances, candidates may request the project investigator (via email) to conduct their interviews online. Such requests must be submitted well in advance, preferably at least one week prior to the scheduled interview date. However, the final decision will be taken by the selection committee to ascertain the special circumstances and allow the candidate(s) for an online interview. The Institute reserves the right to conduct the interview in online/offline mode.
  14. Interview results will be published on the NABI website.
    Note: Permission for online interview may be sought from the PI at least one week prior to the interview date and a valid reason must be given for the same.
