Primary Responsibilities:
As a Junior Medical Coder at Optum, your initial responsibilities will focus on:
- Actively and successfully participating in comprehensive classroom training programs and achieving a minimum of 85% quality in all training assessments.
- Consistently meeting established targets for MOCK charts to demonstrate developing proficiency in medical coding.
- Understanding that eligible employees will be confirmed as Junior Coders within a maximum timeframe of 6 months, based on performance and skill development.
- Adhering strictly to all company policies, established procedures, and best practices.
- Proactively contributing innovative ideas for continuous process improvement within the team.
- Ensuring unwavering adherence to all quality and stringent security standards.
- Being a collaborative and effective team player, contributing positively to the overall team success.
Eligibility of a Junior Medical Coder:
To be eligible for this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a performance rating of “Meets Expectations” or higher in the most recent common review cycle within UnitedHealth Group.
- Adhere to Time in Role Guidelines, having been in their current position for at least 12 months (if currently a UnitedHealth Group employee).
Required Qualifications of a Medical Coder:
Candidates must possess a degree in one of the following fields:
- Degree in Life Science or related fields (e.g., Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry).
- Degree in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
- Degree in Nursing or Allied Health professions.
- Degree in Medicine (e.g., MBBS, BDS).
