Advertisement for Recruitment of 3 Junior Research Fellows, 2 Junior Project Fellows, 1 Field Assistant, and 3 Office cum Data Entry Operators under NMHS funded Project
Applications are invited for the post of 3 Junior Research Fellows (JRF), 2 Junior Project Fellows (JPF), 1 Field Assistant (FA), and 3 Office Assistant cum Data Entry Operators (OA-DEO) (details are given in Annexure-1) purely on a temporary basis (Indian nationals only) for a period of 3 years, subject to availability of funds under the project. The positions being offered are strictly temporary and co-terminus with the project.
PROJECT NAME: “Conservation of Pteridophytes, Distribution and Diversity Patterns in Eastern Himalaya”

DETAILS OF THE POSITION ADVERTISED UNDER NMHS PROJECT
Junior Research Fellow (JRF) – 3 Positions
Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 37,000/- + HRA as per MOEFCC norms for candidates qualified CSIR/UGC NET, GATE, or any other national-level examination.
Qualification:
Essential: 1st Class M.Sc. in Botany / Life Sciences / Ecology / Plant Sciences or an equivalent degree from a UGC-recognized university.
Desirable:
- Minimum 1 year of research experience in conducting field surveys.
- Well-versed with MS Office.
- Experience in data collection through basic field techniques and vegetation sampling.
- Experience in using statistical software for data analysis, GIS, and IUCN analysis.
- Proficiency in English (Speaking, Reading, Writing).
- Strong scientific writing skills.
Maximum Age: 28 years
Work Description:
The candidates will be required to extract data from herbaria, perform data entry, and conduct field surveys in the Eastern Himalayas to collect data on Pteridophytes. They will also be expected to analyze data, write articles & reports, and undertake any other tasks assigned by the PI under the project.
Junior Project Fellow (JPF) – 2 Positions
Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 24,000/- + HRA
Qualification: Essential: 1st Class M.Sc. in Botany / Life Sciences / Ecology / Plant Sciences or an equivalent degree from a UGC-recognized university.

- Minimum 1 year of research experience in conducting field surveys.
- Well-versed with MS Office.

HOW TO APPLY:
Candidates are requested to submit completed applications as per the prescribed format [Annexure-2], accompanied by:
- Self-attested copies of educational certificates
- Research experience documentation
- Proof of date of birth
- Copies of all examination mark sheets
- If currently employed, applicants should also provide a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their current employer

The envelope containing the application form should be inscribed ‘Application for the post of JRF/JPF/Field Assistant, Office Assistant cum Data Entry Operator under the NMHS funded project’.
PLACE OF WORK: The selected candidates are expected to work at Western Regional Centre, Pune, or any other regional centre. They will be required to undertake extensive travel to various regions, including Sikkim, North Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and other locations as per the project requirements. Travel assignments may also involve extensive field trips to remote localities of the Eastern Himalayas.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
The selected candidates are expected to conduct field surveys across the three Eastern Himalayan states and work on the curation of biodiversity information from various literature sources and herbarium specimens. Candidates with sound knowledge of plant taxonomy, herbarium preparation, fieldwork, biodiversity indices, and ecological studies will be preferred. Therefore, candidates meeting these criteria and willing to travel to different parts of the Eastern Himalayas are encouraged to apply.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Candidates are requested to ensure their eligibility with respect to age, discipline, qualification, etc. before filling out the application form as per Annexure-1.

The interview for candidate selection will be conducted in OFFLINE MODE ONLY at the office of the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Western Regional Centre, 7- Koregaon Road, Pune, Maharashtra-411001. The date and time of the interview will be communicated separately to the shortlisted candidates.

Candidates must fill out the application as in Annexure – 2 and submit it to the Project Investigator (PI), NMHS Project, Botanical Survey of India.

Applications for all positions will be screened, and only shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview. Selection will be based on performance in the interview and merit. Mere possession of the prescribed qualifications does not guarantee an interview call or selection. Any attempt to conceal, misrepresent, or canvas facts will result in disqualification.

Selected candidates will be posted anywhere in EH as per project requirements and will need to join immediately.

Candidates currently employed under any contractual obligations to serve Central/State Govt./Public Sector Undertaking/Autonomous body must provide a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their present employer at the time of the interview.

No correspondence will be entertained regarding the interview call or selection process. Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification. BSI reserves the right not to fill any position if it so decides.

Candidates are required to reach the interview venue at least one hour before the scheduled time. Latecomers will not be entertained.

Selected candidates may avail leaves as applicable to JRF/JPF/FA/OA-DEO working in BSI.
