A reputed research organization, the Foundation for Medical Research seeks application for the post of Data Analyst – Bioinformatics [Mid / Senior level].
Essential
We are looking for a candidate with
• PhD in (Bioinformatics / Genomics) or Postgraduate in (Bioinformatics) or relevant degrees with at least 3 years of experience in genomic analysis
• Demonstrated experience in handling large-scale biological datasets using appropriate bioinformatics tools and platforms.
• Had knowledge of Python / Peri for scripting and data parsing.
• Has used R for statistical analysis
• Has used Linux OS system and is comfortable working with cloud computing.
• Has knowledge of SQL database and querying biological datasets.
• Ability to critically review and synthesize scientific literature, with an understanding of how bioinformatics integrates with public health priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex data outputs into meaningful public health insights.
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated, with the ability to multitask, learn new techniques, follow standard operating procedures, and maintain accurate documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Respect for cultural diversity and commitment to inclusive practices in professional settings.
• Sound knowledge on bioinformatics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, anti-microbial resistant genes and gut microbiome assessment.
Desirable
• Experience working on public health or epidemiological research projects involving genomic data.
• Familiarity with open-source tools and repositories relevant to infectious disease genomics
Job Description
The candidate is required:
• To be based in Mumbai.
• Perform quality control checks on WGS datasets to identify potential contamination or anomalies.
• Cross-validate variant classification from WGS data with results obtained from molecular diagnostic techniques.
• Manage and analyze NGS data using pre-established and custom bioinformatics pipelines, primarily in Linux-based virtual environments.
• Modify and optimize existing workflows and filters for context-relevant pathogen detection and resistance profiling.
• Interpret and annotate genetic variants to assess their potential clinical and epidemiological significance.
• Collaborate with laboratory scientists and epidemiologists to ensure consistent and accurate interpretation of findings.
• Troubleshoot data-related issues and work towards continuous improvement of the analytical process.
• Contribute to drafting research manuscripts, project reports, and grant proposals.
The appointment will be on a contract basis with consolidated remuneration upward of Rs.70,000/- per month only if commensurate to qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will need to undergo competency testing before finalisation of appointment.
