Overview
Job Description: ICRISAT is seeking applications from Malawian nationals for the position of Research Technician to execute breeding and crop improvement activities in Malawi. This is a nationally recruited position.
Vacancy for: Research Technician at ICRISAT
Duties and Responsibilities
- Document demand for trial seed production and coordinate seed production.
- Maintain seed inventory and supervised short-term trial seed storage.
- Design and pack trials under the scientist’s direction.
- Coordinate shipment of trials to regional collaborators.
- Establish trials in designated testing sites.
- Ensure trials and demonstrations are well managed for quality data.
- Manage accurate and timely data collection at different stages of trials.
- Operate the Breeding Management System (BMS) for routine operations.
- Implement digital data capture using relevant tools and software.
- Manage a team of casual laborers involved in various activities.
- Ensure safety and hygiene standards are adhered to.
- Assist in various administrative tasks.
- Participate in exhibitions, demonstrations, and field days.
Requirements for Research Technician Job
Qualifications: Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Plant Breeding, Agricultural Sciences, or Applied Biology.
Experience: Minimum of three years in managing agricultural field activities or research projects.
Skills: Good record-keeping, report-writing, and familiarity with grain legumes and/or cereal crops.
General
This is a contractual role for 12 months (1 year).
