Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Section 8, Schedule B, Public Sector Enterprise, under Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India as an Interface Agency to strengthen and empower the emerging Biotech enterprise to undertake strategic research and innovation, addressing nationally relevant product development needs.

Position: Associate Consultant- Patent Analyst
Position Code: CON-57
Number of Positions: Two (02)
Consolidated Fee: The consolidated fee for Associate Consultant shall be Rs. 75,000/- per month.
Duration: The engagement is contractual initially for a period of one year, which is extendable based on performance and organizational priorities.
Job Description:
The Candidate shall work with the IP & Tech Management division of BIRAC, where he/she shall work on various projects such as patent and non-patent prior art searching & analysis, infringement analysis, white space analysis, freedom-to-operate searches, Patent Landscape searches & analysis, market research & competitor monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Patent Searches & Analysis, including Patentability/Freedom-To-Operate (FTO)/Patent Landscape searches by using IP search tools/databases and scientific information resources, including sequence and chemical structure searching.
- Hands-on experience with various Patent databases.
- Devise FTO/other search strategies after understanding the invention/project and provide timely information.
- Analyze and summarize search results and provide insightful evaluation and analysis of results.
- Prepare reports by performing various patent searches and technical analysis.
- Provide support on devising patent risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide opinion/advice on any other matters related to IP.
- Undertake any other tasks in furtherance of the fulfillment of her/his responsibilities.
- Protect the secrecy of and avoid disclosure and unauthorized use of the Confidential Information in any forum, including formal and informal discussions/lectures/publications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Working knowledge of Patent searches & analysis and understanding of technical subject matter.
Qualification:
Essential:
- M.Sc./M.Tech in Life Sciences/Biotechnology/Pharma/Agri/Plant Sciences from a recognized and reputed institute.
- Registered Indian Patent Agent.
Desirable/Preferable:
- PhD in Life Sciences/Biotechnology/Pharma/Agri/Plant Sciences.
- Degree in Law or Diploma/Degree in Intellectual Property Rights from a recognized and reputed institute.
Work Experience:
Post Qualification between 03 to 10 years with a minimum of 03 years of experience in conducting Patent Searches and providing IP services to Central/State Government or Autonomous Institutions or Public Sector Undertakings or KPOs/Companies/Start-ups.
Maximum Age: Maximum 45 years as of the closing date of the vacancy.
