Project Title: Influence of Host Genomic Alterations on Atopic Dermatitis and Involvement of Gut-Skin Metagenomic Axis

Project Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Project linked Junior Research Fellow (JRF) to join our project on Atopic Dermatitis (AD) funded by West Bengal DST-BT. The JRF will collect and process biospecimen, including blood, skin swabs, skin tissue, and stool samples, from hospital OPDs in coordination with clinicians and patients. They will isolate microbial and host DNA/RNA, perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR and sequencing, microbiological culture, and coordinate data analysis, report generation, and visualization. The project aims to investigate host-microbiome interactions, identify microbial and genetic markers associated with AD susceptibility. The role also includes developing SOPs, maintaining GLP standards, documenting daily lab activities, and managing stock and purchase indenting. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful translational research.

Remuneration [INR] per month: 25,000/- Consolidated

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Natural Science, and related disciplines
  • Age limit: 35 years as on the last date of application

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in biological sample (Blood, swab, biopsy, stool) handling
  • Microbiological culture, host and microbial DNA and RNA isolation, primer designing, PCR and DNA sequencing and analysis
  • Prior research experience in the form of Master’s thesis/Summer training etc. involving PCR, microbiological experiments, and DNA sequencing
  • Good communication skills

Nature of Duty:

  • Sample collection from hospital OPDs by coordinating with clinicians and patients
  • Processing of biospecimens collected from hospitals for microbial DNA, RNA isolation
  • Performing basic molecular biology laboratory work like PCR and DNA sequencing for both host and microbial samples
  • Coordinating with the PI and the data analyst regarding data generation, visualization, analysis interpretation, and report writing
  • Formulation of SOPs and maintaining GLP with proper documentation of day-to-day lab activities
  • Maintenance of stock and purchase indenting

  1. This position is contractual, and appointments will be initially up to 1 year from the date of joining of the selected candidate, extendable depending upon performance, requirement of the project, and availability of funds.
