AIIMS Bhopal is one of the apex healthcare institutes being established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY), to correct regional imbalances in quality tertiary-level healthcare in the country, and attaining self-sufficiency in Graduate and Postgraduate medical education and training.

The PhD program jointly offered by AIIMS Bhopal and MANIT Bhopal aims to create a collaborative environment for doctors, engineers, and scientists to share knowledge and drive innovation. This initiative focuses on developing indigenous healthcare devices and systems through incubation and entrepreneurship. The program is structured to be flexible, fostering synergy between the skills of technologists and medical professionals. By integrating technology and medicine with entrepreneurship, it provides a unique platform for participants to
develop innovative healthcare technologies, devices, and systems.The Joint-PhD Program offers opportunity to PhD students enrolled in both institutions to collaborate with faculty members and research teams from AIIMS Bhopal and MANIT Bhopal on a multidisciplinary research project, as well as to take advantage of the facilities and professional development opportunities offered by both the institutions
Joint PhD Program Structure
- Candidates who are interested in pursuing Joint PhD program (AIIMS Bhopal and MANIT
Bhopal) can either apply to AIIMS Bhopal or MANIT Bhopal against their respective
advertisements. - The institute to which candidates apply will be considered as the ‘Primary Institute’ for the candidate, while other institute will be considered as the ‘Host Institute’.
- Candidate should begin his research and study at the ‘Primary Institute’, however it is expected to spend a minimum of 12 months at the “Host Institute”. Further, the timing and duration of the stay at the ‘Host Institute’ will depend on the requirements of the research program. Travel to and study at the ‘Host Institution’ will be contingent upon the usual requirements of the PhD research project.
- Candidates who would like to choose AIIMS Bhopal as ‘Primary Institute, should apply against this advertisement.
- In-service applicant from AIIMS Bhopal and MANIT Bhopal (Faculty/Scientists/Employee) will be considered for Ph.D. registration as per the guidelines laid down by the respective institutes.
- Candidate shall undertake a program of progress monitoring and examination that meets the requirements of both institutions.
- Candidate must comply with the rules, regulations, policies, codes, and procedures of ‘Primary Institute’ as well as ‘Host Institute’ (for the period of coursework/research at the host institute).
- Candidates will carry out the research work in both the institutes (Primary and Host institutes). Chief Supervisor and Supervisor are required to facilitate the resources required for the research work.
- On successful completion of the program requirements, candidates will be awarded a PhD degree jointly by both the Institutions.
General Eligibility Criteria
1. Primary Institution: Where the candidates begin their studies and spend the majority of time. The expectation is that candidates will spend a minimum of 12 months at the other Host Institution. Candidates who will apply against this advertisement, for them AIIMS Bhopal will be ‘Primary Institute’ and MANIT Bhopal will be ‘Host Institute’.
2. Candidates admitted in this category shall not be a registered student in any other academic program in India or abroad and shall not be a full-time or part-time employee of any organization in India or abroad. A candidate seeking admission to the joint PhD program conducted by AIIMS, Bhopal and MANIT Bhopal must possess at least one of the following qualifications:
i) Eligibility criteria for Medical Students: MBBS/BDS/MD/MS/MDS/DM/M. Ch/ BAMS/
BYMS/ BHMS/DNB in the subject concerned. Candidates who have obtained any of these degrees from medical colleges which are not recognized by the Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India/Nursing Council of India/National Medical Commission shall not be eligible to apply. Candidate should have at least 55% marks (GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC) and (50 % for SC/ST/PWD) in the last eligibility examination qualified.
ii) Eligibility criteria for Nursing Students: Candidates with M.Sc. Nursing qualification recognized by Indian Nursing Council can apply. Candidate should have at least 55% marks (GEN/GENEWS/OBC) and (50 % for SC/ST/PWD) in their Master’s degree.
iii) Eligibility criteria for Engineering Students: Master’s degree in respective discipline with minimum of 60% or CGPA 6.5 (on a 10-point Scale) with GATE score.

B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch/B.Plan or Equivalent Degree with minimum of 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA (on the scale of 10) from an Institute of National Importance/Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI) with a valid GATE Score
iv) Eligibility criteria for Life Science Students: Master’s Degree (two years course) awarded by Indian Universities or equivalent in the subject. Candidate should have at least 55% marks (GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC) and (50 % for SC/ST/PWD) in the last eligibility examination qualified.
v) Eligibility criteria for Non-Life Science Students: Candidates with qualification in non-life
sciences subject (M.Sc., M. Pharma, M.A.(Psychology) and M.A. in Social work (Social Sciences) can apply. Candidate should have at least 60% marks/6.5 CGPA.
3. Candidates should have their own fellowship from a national/state agency (CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/GATE/etc) and or in-service candidates.
4. Candidates working under Central Govt./Semi Govt./Autonomous organization should
submit their applications through proper channel i.e., employer. They will be required to
submit a “No Objection Certificate” from their employer along with the application form
before they are allowed to appear for the selection process of the Ph.D. Courses.
5. The candidates, must have completed the requisite qualification and degree on or before closing date of application.
6. In-service candidates for Ph.D. registration will be considered as per guidelines laid down by Govt. of India.

Submission of Application
The applications will be invited on a prescribed Performa. The application form along with prescribed fees must be submitted by Speed Post/by Hand latest by 15.12.2024 up to 5:00 P.M in the Office of Registrar, Academic Block, AIIMS Bhopal, Saket Nagar, Bhopal(MP)-462020.
AIIMS, Bhopal is not responsible in any manner for any postal delay.
Application fees:
- For General /OBC/ EWS candidates Rs. 1000/-
- For SC/ST/PwBD/Women Candidate – Nil
- Fees to be paid by Demand Draft only in favour of “Director AIIMS Bhopal” payable at Bhopal
- Fee once remitted will not be refunded under any circumstances
- Inadequately filled / incomplete applications will be rejected
Method of Selection for the Joint-PhD Program:
- Applications will be screened and a list of eligible and not-eligible candidates for interview will be published on the institute website.
- Eligible candidates will be called for the interview.
- After Interview Final merit will be available on the website of AIIMS Bhopal and notice
Board.
