NOTICE
Ph.D. ADMISSIONS 2024-2025
The University Grants Commission (UGC), vide its notification dated 27.03.2024 decided that from the Academic Session 2024-25, the National Eligibility Test (NET) score can be used for admission to Ph.D. programs in place of entrance tests conducted by the different Universities/HEIs.
Accordingly, from the academic session 2024-25, the University of Delhi will use the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores for admission to Ph.D. Programs.
Guidelines for Admissions to Ph.D. for Academic Session 2024-2025
Eligibility Categories Based on NET Scores:
Candidates are classified into three categories based on their NET scores:

Category-2: Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. | Assistant Professor, Ph.D. Admission |

- Admission Under JRF Category: Conducted as per UGC Notification dated November 7, 2022, published in the Gazette of India: Extraordinary No. 544.
- Weightage for Categories 2 and 3: For students in Categories 2 and 3, Ph.D. admission will be based on combined merit: 70% Weightage: Test scores (NET marks). 30% Weightage: Interview marks.
- Validity of NET Scores: NET scores for candidates in Categories 2 and 3 will be valid for one year for Ph.D. admissions.
- University-Specific Entrance Examinations: Entrance exams may be conducted for Ph.D. programs in subjects where NET examinations are not held (e.g., Portuguese, Italian, Engineering).
- Important Advice for Candidates: Apply for the UGC NET Examination, June 2024, as per the schedule announced by NTA. Regularly check the University website (www.admission.uod.ac.in) and NTA website for updates and schedules.
- Bulletin of Information: The Bulletin for Ph.D. admission (2024-25) will be published on the University website.
- Approval Notice: This document is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.

Ph.D. Programs are offered by the University of Delhi through its Departments/Centres under different Faculties, namely: Arts, Applied Social Sciences & Humanities, Education, Interdisciplinary & Applied Sciences, Music, Commerce & Business Studies, Mathematical Sciences, Sciences, Law, Social Sciences and others
Key Information
- Admission to Ph.D. Program of University of Delhi is governed by Ordinance VI of the University, its Amendments, and other notifications issued by UoD from time to time.
- Admission to all Ph.D. Programs is based on the eligibility criteria and procedures specified by the University on its website and in the Ph.D. Bulletin of Information – 2024 (Ph.D BOI-2024).
- Candidates must read the contents of Ph.D BOI-2024 and consult the University of Delhi Act, 1922, its amendments, and the Statutes.
- The Ordinances, Rules, Regulations, and Notifications available on the University website, www.du.ac.in, shall be final and binding.
- Admissions to Ph.D. Program 2024-25 will be based on:
- Gazette Notification, University Grants Commission (Minimum Standard and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) dated 07th November 2022 (Annexure-I)
- University of Delhi Notification; Sub: Amendments to Ordinances, September 2023 (Annexure-II)
- For the academic session 2024-25, the Ph.D. registration portal may be opened more than once in an academic year.
- Scores of NET Examination conducted in December 2023 and June 2024 (held on August 21 – September 05, 2024) will be considered.
- Interview is mandatory for all candidates.
- Admission to all Ph.D. Programs is done online through the University’s portal: http://phd2024.uod.ac.in.
Registration Fee
- SC/ST/PwBD: Rs. 300.00 (Rupees Three Hundred Only) per program
- UR/EWS/OBC-NCL: Rs. 750.00 (Rupees Seven Hundred Fifty Only) per program
Additional Guidelines
- Admission is based on the suitability to specific specializations and subject to fulfilling all other conditions laid down in the respective Ordinances of the University.
- Candidates must read the Bulletin of Information to ascertain their eligibility criteria, major areas of research, and mandatory requirements for the research proposal at the time of registration.
- Information on areas of research, allied subjects, seat matrix, requirements of the research proposal, and interview process is provided by the Departments.
- Candidates must visit the website of the respective department for details.
- Departments/Centres reserve the right not to fill up vacant seats in case of non-availability of suitable candidates.
- At the time of admission, candidates must appear in person at the respective department for verification of original documents.
- The Departments/Centres will verify the certificates/documents before granting admission.
- Candidates must carefully check the eligibility criteria.
- No additional eligibility criteria are applied beyond those stipulated by the University through its website and Ph.D BOI-2024.
- Determination of eligibility and document verification for admission will be the sole purview of UoD.
- Candidates are advised to regularly check:
- The admission website www.admission.uod.ac.in
- The website of the respective department
- Their dashboard and email for all communications and updates related to admissions.
- Grievances arising from lack of awareness of guidelines, schedules, or eligibility criteria will not be entertained.
- Grievances related to Ph.D. admissions will be handled by the DRC/BRS of the respective Department/Faculty.
Important Notes
- Non-compliance with admission requirements, such as failure to submit relevant documents or pay fees within the stipulated date and time, will result in the loss of admission rights.
- If documents submitted are found to be fake/non-genuine, admission will be canceled without prior notice.
- If discovered after program completion, the degree will be revoked, and legal action will be taken.
- A candidate’s participation in the admission process will be provisional.
- If, at any stage, it is found that eligibility requirements are not fulfilled, the admission, if granted, shall be canceled ipso facto, and appropriate legal action will be taken against such a candidate.
- Seats mentioned in the Ph.D. Bulletin of Information 2024-25 may vary.
- Supernumerary seats shall be available as per the University rules.
- Teachers and non-teaching staff, who are in the service of the University of Delhi, may directly appear for an interview. These will be considered supernumerary seats.
- Admission Fee Refund Policy:
- The University will not refund the Admission Fee (if paid) if any candidate is found ineligible at any stage.
- Rules for Violation of Regulations:
- The University reserves the right to cancel the admission of any candidate who violates the rules and regulations laid down by the UoD.
- Eligibility for Registration:
- No candidate shall be eligible to register for the Ph.D. program if they are already registered for any full-time program of study in any University/Institution.
- Candidates will not be permitted to undertake any full-time course during the pendency of the Ph.D. program.
- Merit List for UR Category Seats:
- The merit list for the UR category seats will comprise all candidates in order of merit.
- No one will be excluded from the UR category merit list, even if they belong to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS categories, provided they meet the merit criterion.
- Discrimination based on category/caste is completely unlawful, and strict action will be taken against violations.
- Reallocation of ST and SC Category Seats:
- If the total number of eligible ST category candidates applying for a Ph.D. Program is exhausted, the remaining seats under this category will be allocated to eligible SC candidates, and vice versa.
- Certificates Required for Reserved Categories:
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer):
- Certificate must be issued in the candidate’s name by the competent authority, with the caste listed in the OBC Central List (http://ncbc.nic.in).
- Income certificate must be issued after March 31, 2024.
- EWS Certificate:
- Certificate in the candidate’s name must be issued by the competent authority to claim reservation.
- Income certificate must be issued after March 31, 2024.
- SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD Certificates:
- Certificates must be issued in the candidate’s name by the competent authority.
- The candidate’s name must match the name on their qualifying certificates.
- Similarly, their parents’ names must match in both sets of certificates.
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer):
- Translation of Non-English/Hindi Certificates:
- If original certificates are not in English or Hindi, an English/Hindi version or translation, duly certified by the Principal/Director or other competent authority of the last Institute attended, will be required during document verification.
