Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) invites applications for admission to the PhD program (January 2025 session) in various domains of disease biology, neurobiology, bioinformatics, and plant science.
RGCB PhD program is affiliated with the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), an “Institution of National Importance” providing education, training, and research, established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the auspices of UNESCO. The selected candidates will register for the PhD program with RCB and should follow the guidelines issued by RCB and RGCB for the award of the PhD degree.

1. Eligibility for PhD Admission
- Candidates with a post-graduate degree in Life, Agricultural, Environmental, Veterinary, Pharmaceutical, Medical Sciences, or allied subjects (e.g., Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Chemistry, Microbiology) with a minimum of 60% marks
or equivalent grade in the UGC 10-point scale or equivalent from an accredited foreign institution are eligible to apply.
- A relaxation of 5% marks (from 60% to 55%) may be allowed for SC, ST, and differently-abled candidates.
- Candidates must have a valid JRF (UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT/DST-INSPIRE or any other nationally-competitive fellowship) for a period of 5 years offered by the Government.
- Upper age limit: 26 years as of July 01, 2024.
- For SC, ST, and differently-abled candidates, the upper age limit is 28 years as of July 01, 2024.
2. Selection Procedure
- Candidates meeting all eligibility criteria and vacancy-specified areas will be shortlisted for an interview.
- Based on interview performance at RGCB’s main campus in Poojappura, candidates will be selected.
- Interviews will be held only in offline mode.
- Interview guidelines will be provided to all shortlisted candidates.
- The list of shortlisted candidates will be displayed on RGCB’s notice board and website.
- Final selection is based on one-on-one interaction with faculty scientists.
3. Application Procedure
- Only online applications will be accepted.
- Application fee: ₹500 (paid online through ‘SB Collect’ of State Bank of India). SC/ST/EWS/differently-abled candidates are exempted from this fee.
- Last date for completed applications: 5 PM, November 20, 2024.
- Incomplete applications or those without processing fees will be rejected.
4. Fees for PhD Programme
- Administrative Fee: ₹5000 per semester for the first ten semesters and ₹10,000 for every semester thereafter.
- All students must pay RCB administrative fees.
