The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is an internationally acclaimed institution that works towards strengthening wildlife conservation and management through capacity building, research, academics, and advisory services. The institute is actively engaged in research across the breadth of the country on biodiversity-related issues. WII invites applications from INDIAN NATIONALS for 01 contractual position of research/project personnel under various research projects. Duly filled-in Application Form along with all self-attested documents and application/processing fee shall be addressed by e-mail only to The Nodal Officer, Elephant Cell, Wildlife Institute of India, Chandrabani, Dehradun – 248 001 (Uttarakhand), and the same must reach the Institute latest by 1700hrs on 02 September 2024. The period of the contractual term, EQ, DQ, monthly emoluments, and other details of the advertised positions are given below:
Position: Consultant-B (One) (Delhi based but would have to travel across India on need).
Work Description
Coordinate the activities of the elephant cell between WII, Project Elephant (PE), MoEF&CC, Chief Wildlife Wardens/Nodal Officers of
elephant-bearing states; assist WII and Director PE in formulating and implementing conservation action plans for elephants; liaison between stakeholders involved in elephant conservation and management; assist in organizing training and capacity-building workshops, and generate crucial thematic database related to elephant conservation by coordinating with the State Forest Departments and other stakeholders.Essential Qualifications
M.Sc. in Wildlife Sciences, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences from any recognized university with more than 5 years of experience in research, conservation, and policy-related aspects of wildlife conservation.
Desirable Qualification
Candidate with a doctoral degree and prior experience in research, conservation aspects, and policy-related matters, exposure to various legislations and policy instruments relevant to the conservation of endangered species in India will be preferred. Excellent written and communication skills. Prior experience in writing technical reports, SOP, and guidelines related to endangered wildlife species. Publications on elephant/wildlife research will be an added advantage.
Age Limit (years): 40
Emoluments (INR): Rs. 80,000/- (Consolidated)
Duration: 01 year/till the completion of the financial year (whichever is earlier) (likely to be extended subject to performance review).

However, category candidate(s) belongs to SC/ST/OBC/EWS (Non-General Category) and Physically Challenged (PC) are exempted from the said Application Fee but shall have to pay Rs.100/- as ‘Application Processing’ Fee and, the same shall be payable through online/electronic mode to the following Bank Account:

- The subject on top of the envelope carrying application must clearly mention “Application for Advt. No. WII/ADVT.2/RP–CELL/August ‘2024 at WII – reg”.
- Candidate(s) presently working/engaged with any WII’s project or research activity must ensure to attach a “No Objection Certificate” from their concerned PI/Nodal Officer, as the case may be.
- Shortlisting of applicants for online interview will be based on essential qualification, age limit, percentage of marks in Bachelors’/ Master’s Degree, specialization relevance in Masters, research experience and (Publications- Paper published in journals, books Paper Presented in Workshops/ Seminars/ Symposiums/Conferences), as per WII rules).
- Candidate(s) must also mention the names with complete address, e-mail, and contact details of the referees as mentioned in the Application Form.
- A checklist of following self-attested documents shall be duly filled in the attached application form viz., Passport Size Photograph; Documents/testimonials; Copies of relevant research publications; Extracurricular activities etc.
- Mere fulfilment of the minimum advertised qualification and experience requirement DOES NOT automatically entitle an applicant to be called for an interview. The decision of the Institute in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance, or rejection of the application and mode of selection will be final and binding on the candidates. No inquiry or correspondence will be entertained from individual or agency.
- Based on the above-stated screening criteria, top ten (10) shortlisted candidates against each respective advertised position shall be called for interview(s).
- A duly constituted Selection Committee will conduct the recruitment process.
- All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of joining for necessary verification.
- At the time of the verification of original documents or even after selection, if it is found that the applicant has attempted to willfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection, and due action will be taken.
- Relaxation in the upper age limit shall be allowed in accordance with the Government of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions (Department of Personnel & Training) OM No. 15012/2/2010-Estt. (D) dated 27.03.2012, as amended from time to time. However, the categories of upper-age relaxations are as follows:
a. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes up to 5 years.
b. Other Backward Class (OBC) up to 3 years. - The positions advertised are purely temporary/contractual for the project period as specified in the advertisement. They will stand abolished after the completion of the project.
- Candidates not found suitable for a particular post as advertised may be considered for a position at a lower grade as per the recommendations of the Interview Committee. In this regard, recommendations/approval of the Interview Committee shall be considered as final.
- The Institute’s rules and regulations govern the project’s tenure.
- After announcing the results, the candidate should join the project immediately.
- The Director, WII, reserves the right to reject any application/candidature because of incomplete information.
