RECRUITMENT OF JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW
Applications are invited from interested and eligible candidates for Two Post of Junior Research Fellows (JRF) for a period of two years under the MoES-INCOIS funded project ‘Long term monitoring of jellyfish blooms along the Northern coastal waters of Bay of Bengal’. The position is purely on a temporary basis for a period of one year and it may be extended for further period(s) based on further project extension and satisfactory performance of the candidate.
Remarks: Project fellows are desired for Ecological and taxonomic studies of marine organisms as well as familiarisation with in-situ and Remote sensing data collection and analysis from West Bengal to Andhra Pradesh coast. JRFs are expected to undertake extensive field surveys along the coast of Bay of Bengal and onboard cruises, therefore required to be physically fit to undertake research in rough sea conditions.

Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in Zoology / Marine Sciences / Environmental Science / Life Sciences/Bioinformatics/Biological Oceanography/Oceanography/Ocean Sciences/ Fisheries with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognised university.
Emoluments:
- Fellowship of Rs 37,000/- plus HRA 30% (NET/GATE qualified) for the initial two years (Total emoluments/month: Rs 48100/-) will be provided.
- Fellowship of Rs. 24000/- plus HRA 30% for the (Non-NET/GATE qualified) for the initial two years (Total emoluments/month: Rs 31200/-) will be provided.
General Instructions
- The application form is available for download on the Zoological Survey of India website: https://zsi.gov.in/advertisement.
- Applications should be submitted by Speed Post/Registered Post/ Courier to The Director, Zoological Survey of India, M-Block, New Alipore, Kolkata-700053, with self-attested copies of relevant documents.
- The Upper age limit for applying for the post of JRF is 28 years as on 1st August 2024. However, the upper age limit may be relaxed up to five years in the case of SC, ST & OBC candidates (as per GoI rules).
- Appointments are on a contractual basis for one year initially, and likely extendable based on project candidate performance for further years.
- No employment, paid or honorary, is permitted during the Associateship tenure.
- Candidates for all positions will undergo screening, and only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their qualification and experience. Mere possession of qualification and experience may not ensure the selection of candidate. Date and time of Interview will be separately communicated to the shortlisted candidates. Selection will be based on interview performance and merit.
- Candidates should submit the duly filled application form in MS word and scanned copies of self-attested copies of certificates & Mark lists of educational qualification, Research experience and NO objection certificate from present employer (if any) in PDF format addressed to Dr. Jasmine.P, Scientist E, Zoological Survey of India, M Block, New Alipore, Kolkata-700053, West Bengal. Applications should be submitted by Speed Post/Registered Post/ Courier with a subject “Application for JRF (Jellyfish project)” and a soft copy of all to the E-mail id [email protected] with a subject ‘Application for JRF (Jellyfish project)’ on or before 28th August 2024.
- Please note that only qualified and suitable candidates will be called for an interview, held at ZSI, Kolkata. The interview for candidate selection will be conducted ONLINE/ OFFLINE (only for candidates from Kolkata) at ZSI, Kolkata. Applicants must indicate their preferred interview mode (Online/ In person) in the application form given in point No. 8 under Mode of interview.
- No TA/DA will be paid for the interview.
- Selected candidates will be posted anywhere as per project requirements and must join within two weeks of selection.
- Incomplete application forms/applications with misrepresented facts will not be considered.
- Selected candidates for the Interview (will be informed through E-mail) are required to register the details (Only West Bengal-based candidates) from 10:00-10:30 AM on the day of the interview at Zoological Survey of India, ‘M’ Block, New Alipore, Kolkata-700053.
- Candidates should bring the duly filled-in application with self-attested true copies of testimonials of qualifications, experience, date of birth etc. along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.

- The selected candidate needs to join immediately or at a short notice.
