The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is an internationally acclaimed institution that works towards strengthening wildlife conservation and management through capacity building, research, academics, and advisory services. The institute is actively engaged in research across the breadth of the country on biodiversity-related issues. WII invites applications from INDIAN NATIONALS for 13 contractual positions of research/project personnel under various research projects. Duly filled-in Application-Form along with all self-attested documents and application/processing fee shall be addressed by post only to The Nodal Officer, Research Recruitment & Placement Cell, Wildlife Institute of India, Chandrabani, Dehradun – 248 001 (Uttarakhand), and the same must reach the Institute latest by 1700hrs on Monday, 12 August 2024. The period of contractual term, EQ, DQ, Monthly Emoluments, and other details of the advertised positions are given below:
1. Title of the Project: Cumulative impact assessment and preparation of Mitigation plan for the proposed Hubballi-Ankola Railway Line Project.
Position advertised: Project Scientist – I (Ecology)
Number of position: One
Monthly emoluments: Rs. 56,000/- plus HRA
Age limit: 35 years as on last date of receiving of application.
Project duration: One year (Likely to be extended)
Essential qualification: Doctoral Degree in Science (Wildlife Science/Botany/ Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Environmental Sciences) from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification: Demonstrated experience/aptitude in a) Wildlife survey techniques b) spatial analysis and ecological modelling, c) statistical analysis, d) project design and coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection, and e) research publications in peer-reviewed journals f) Previous experience in EIA related work.
Description of Work: Candidate will lead a team and conduct field research, surveys, data collection, data analysis, and report-writing for the project. Job also includes liaising with the forest department and other stakeholders.

Number of position: Three (03) Nos
- Herpetofauna component
- Geoinformatics component
- Terrestrial Ecology component
Monthly emoluments: Rs. 42,000/- plus HRA
Age limit: 40 Years as on last date of receiving of application.
Project duration: One year (Likely to be extended)
Essential qualification: Master’s degree in Natural Sciences (Zoology/Botany/Forestry/ Wildlife Science/Life Science/Environmental Science/Geoinformatics/Biodiversity & Conservation) with 4 Years’ Research experience in relevant field.
Desirable Qualification: Demonstrated experience of analyzing data, taxonomic research, interpretation of ecological information, GIS mapping, and scientific writing. Publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals of relevant discipline.
Description of Work: Candidate will assist in implementing the objectives of the Project, field data collection, analysis, literature review, and report writing.
GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
- Applicant(s) must read stated terms & conditions very carefully before filling up the Application Form.
- Incomplete/late applications and applications not in the prescribed format as per Annexure – II, i.e., Application Form, are liable to be rejected.
- Duly filled-in Application Form along with all self-attested documents and application/processing fee shall be addressed By-post only to The Nodal Officer, Research Recruitment & Placement Cell, Wildlife Institute of India, Chandrabani, Dehradun – 248 001 (Uttarakhand), and the same must reach the Institute latest by 1700hrs on Monday, 12th August 2024.
- An Application Fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) for the applicant(s) belonging to General Category shall have to be deposited through an online mode. However, category candidate(s) belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWS (Non-General Category) and Physically Challenged (PC) are exempted from the said Application Fee but shall have to pay Rs.100/- as ‘Application Processing’ Fee, and the same shall be payable through online/electronic mode to the following Bank Account:

- Applicant shall also have to attach a copy of the Application/Processing Fee(s) deposited in the above-mentioned account along with the Application Form. Failing to attach the same shall lead to rejection of the application.
- A candidate may apply for a maximum of two advertised positions with relevance to his/her academic education and, as per essential and desirable requisites of the advertised position(s). Candidates applying for more than one position shall have to submit a separate Application Form and Fee for each position.
- The subject on top of the envelope carrying the application must clearly mention “Application for Advt. No. WII/ADVT.2/RP–CELL/July 2024 at WII – reg”.
- Candidate(s) presently working/engaged with any WII’s project or research activity must ensure to attach a “No Objection Certificate” from their concerned PI/Nodal Officer, as the case may be.
- Shortlisting of applicants for online interviews will be based on essential qualification, age limit, percentage of marks in Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree, specialization relevance in Masters, research experience (Publications, Paper Presented in Workshops/Seminars/Symposiums/Conferences), SOP, and extracurricular activities (as per WII rules).
- The selection of short-listed candidates for online interview(s) shall be done for different positions as per criteria stated below.
- Candidate(s) must also mention the names with complete address, e-mail, and contact details of the referees as mentioned in the Application Form.
- A check-list of the following self-attested documents shall be duly filled in the attached application form viz., Passport Size Photograph; Documents/testimonials; Copies of relevant research publications; Extracurricular activities etc.
- Mere fulfilment of the minimum advertised qualification and experience requirement DOES NOT automatically entitle an applicant to be called for an interview. The decision of the Institute in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance, or rejection of the application and mode of selection will be final and binding on the candidates. No inquiry or correspondence will be entertained from individual or agency.
- Based on the above-stated screening criteria, the top ten (10) short-listed candidates against each respective advertised position shall be called for interview(s).
- A duly constituted Selection Committee will conduct the recruitment process.
- All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of joining for necessary verification.
- At the time of the verification of original documents or even after selection, if it is found that the applicant has attempted to wilfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection, and due action will be taken.
- Relaxation in the upper age limit shall be allowed in accordance with the Government of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of Personnel & Training) OM No. 15012/2/2010-Estt. (D) dated 27.03.2012, as amended from time to time. However, the categories of upper-age relaxations are as follows:
a. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes up to 5 years.
b. Other Backward Class (OBC) up to 3 years. - The positions advertised are purely temporary/contractual for the project period as specified in the advertisement. They will stand abolished after the completion of the project.
- Candidates not found suitable for a particular post as advertised may be considered for a position at a lower grade as per recommendations of the Interview Committee. In this regard, recommendations/approval of the Interview Committee shall be considered as final.
- The Institute’s rules and regulations govern the project’s tenure.
- After announcing the results, the candidate should join the project immediately.
- The Director, WII, reserves the right to reject any application/candidature because of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason(s), thereof.
