Advertisement inviting applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow in SERB-POWER funded Project at the Institute of Health Sciences
Applications are invited from motivated and eligible Indian citizens for the position of Junior Research Fellow in the SERB-POWER sponsored research project entitled “Deciphering Role Of A Long Non-Coding RNA In Early Life Stress Induced Pathological Aggressive Behaviour” under the supervision of Principal Investigator (PI) Dr. Arpita Konar, Assistant Professor, Institute of Health Sciences, Presidency University, Kolkata.
Date, Time and Venue of Interview: Monday, August 12th, 2024, at 11.30 AM, Tower 1, Institute of Health Sciences, Presidency University (2nd Campus), Plot No. DG/02/02, Premises No. 14-0358, Action Area-ID, New Town (Near Biswa Bangla Convention Centre), Kolkata-700156, West Bengal, India. The interview will be conducted in in-person mode. The exact time of the interview schedule will be communicated to the selected candidates.
Application process: The candidate must email i) their current CV including their contact number ii) a 250-word research statement including any past research experience and motivation for this project iii) name and email id or phone number of at least one referee, who can provide feedback on their academic background, to
the PI ([email protected]) on or before August 9th, 2024, 5 pm.The candidate must bring with them on August 12th, 2024, i) hard copy of their CV ii) write-up and iii) original mark sheets/grade cards for B.Sc. and M.Sc., NET/GATE scorecard/rank card/certificate of award. Self-attested xerox copies of the original will also be accepted subject to verification of the original on a later date if the candidate is selected.
Minimum Educational Qualifications Required:
- MSc/MS/BS-MS or equivalent in any branches of Biology with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade from any recognized board/University
- Qualification in the National Eligibility Test at the JRF/LS level or Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE).
Following qualifications are desirable but not mandatory:
- Previous hands-on experience in mouse handling, stereotaxic surgery, qPCR, in situ hybridization, and immunoprecipitation.
- Prior experience in programming languages (preferable python and R) and deep learning algorithms
Job description: The fellow will contribute to elucidate the role of long non-coding RNAs in early life stress induced aggressive behaviour using mouse model system and molecular biology techniques. The fellow will take part in publishing the scientific findings in reputed peer-reviewed international journals. He/she is encouraged to set up collaborations with other labs in Presidency University as well as other research institutes.
Enrolling for Ph.D.: The selected candidate may be allowed to enroll for Ph.D. program as per university rules.
Duration of project: Three years.
Tenure of Assignment: One year. Can be extended annually till the duration of the project, subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
Fellowship/Salary: As per DST-SERB norms. 31,000 INR + 24% HRA per month for JRF

- No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
