Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India invites applications from eligible Indian Nationals for the following positions under the project titled “Exploring the marine ecosystems for novel bioresources with human health and industrial significance.”
Project duration: Upto 31.03.2026 or the completion of the project as per GoI orders and based on annual performance appraisal.
Position #1
Name of Post: Project Scientist – II
Number of posts: 10
Upper age limit: 40 years
Remuneration: 67,000/- per month +18% HRA
Eligibility criteria
Essential qualifications: Doctoral degree in science or Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized University or equivalent and three years of experience in research and development in industrial and academic institutions or Science and Technology organizations and scientific activities and
services.Desirable qualifications: Candidate should have completed a Ph.D. in any field of life sciences with extensive experience in microbiology/pharmacy/molecular biology/marine biology/Virology/natural products chemistry/drug screening/bioprospecting/experience in working high-throughput NGS technologies/biochemistry/purification and characterization of natural products using LC/MS-MS/UHPLC/HPLC/proteomics/mass-spectrometry/ metabolomics, etc. Candidates with experience in the above field and publications in peer-reviewed journals are encouraged to apply.
OR
Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in bioinformatics or computational biology with experience in high-throughput sequencing data analysis such as WGS, transcriptomics, metagenomics, etc. The candidate should have extensive knowledge in working with one or more programming languages such as Python, Perl, C++, JAVA, AI, ML, etc., and publications in peer-reviewed journals are encouraged to apply.

System administration, managing HPC operations, installation, configuration, fine-tuning, and troubleshooting Linux HPC servers, building and deploying open source/commercial software, diagnosing and resolving system operational problems quickly and effectively, providing technical support software installation, troubleshooting, data backup/recovery, day to day operations of the bioinformatics facility, network security

Remuneration: 42,000/- per month + 18% HRA
Eligibility criteria Essential qualifications: Candidates having M.Sc. / M. Tech / M. Pharm. / M.V.Sc. or equivalent qualification in Life Sciences or allied subjects (Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Virology/Bioinformatics/Computational Biology/Microbiology, etc.) with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (relaxation will be given as per GOI guideline) with 2 years of experience in research work are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to national-level entrance test (NET/GATE/GPAT) qualified candidates. For non-NET/GATE candidates, the fellowship would be applicable as per DST guidelines.
Desirable qualifications: Candidates with more than two years of research experience in applied biology/biotechnology/drug screening/ bioprospecting/ microbiology/ proteomics/ mass-spectrometry or a related field of life sciences.
OR
Candidates will have hands-on experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS), specifically 16S rRNA sequencing, as well as proficiency in molecular biology techniques, experimental microbial work, and the handling of clinical samples.
OR
The candidate with computational biology/machine learning/database development/simulations/programming or scripting.

Selection will be carried out through application screening, followed by a written/interview process. N.B.: The list of shortlisted candidates’ names and the date of the interview will be published on the ILS website.
All the positions are purely temporary and coterminous with the project. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. The decision of the Director regarding the selection of candidates will be final and no further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
