Applications from Indian nationals are invited for one temporary position of Senior Project Associate under the project entitled “To identify metabolic biomarkers for microbiome for early detection of a) Type-2 Diabetes (T2D), b) Obesity, c) Stress (anxiety & depression, SAD), and d) neurodegenerative diseases (NDD) & Longitudinal Study of Impact of Probiotics” in the School of Biological Sciences, NISER Bhubaneswar funded by Axilor Ventures Private Limited.
QUALIFICATION:
- Master’s degree in Biology or Biological/Life-Sciences/Environmental Sciences from a recognized university or equivalent; and
- Minimum Four years of experience in research and development in industrial and/or academic Institutions or science and technology organizations and scientific activities and services.
OR
Doctoral Degree in Biology or Biological/Life-Sciences from a recognized university or equivalent.
Preference will be given to the candidate with:
- Experience in solving advanced biological problems and gene/metabolite networking and pathway analysis is required.
- Hands-on experience in Metabolomics data acquisition using LC-MS/MS and/or NGS systems.
- Hands-on experience in Bioinformatics and Computational biology along with prior knowledge in AI-ML, and advanced level of python, is highly desirable.
- Interests in applying knowledge to high-impact translatable biological research and solving advanced biological problems and networking, is required.
- Understanding univariate and multivariate statistics and statistical packages would be required.
- Knowledge in handling and dealing with data for correlation and regression would be a plus.
- Prior knowledge in handling various omics (transcriptomics, metagenomics, metabolomics) and image processing would be preferable.
The Aich Lab (https://www.niser.ac.in/profile/palok.aich) focuses on understanding the role of the intestinal microbiome on the gut-adipocyte-brain axis. For this industry-funded project, we plan to explore host metabolome to identify individuals’ metagenome profiles.
The work would also involve the identification of novel probiotics and their prophylactic or therapeutic roles. Knowledge of expertise in wet lab work with essential knowledge of bioinformatics would be a plus. People with experience and interest in these areas with a strong desire for innovative research are preferred. The job involves but not limited to a) collection of clinical samples under the supervision of Clinical collaborators from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, b) processing of samples for downstream experiments and analysis.
Monthly Emoluments: ₹42,000/- pm plus HRA as per rules
AGE: 40 years as of 08.07.2024, age relaxation to entitled categories per GOI rules.
The above position is purely temporary for six months or completion of the project, whichever is earlier and strictly co-terminus with the project and not leading to any Ph.D. degree in NISER. It would, therefore, not confer any right/ claim, implicit or explicit, for consideration/ absorption against any NISER post.
