CSIR – Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, a constituent National Laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), seeks qualified candidates for Project Associate Level-I positions on a purely temporary contractual basis in the project titled “To formulate grain-based nutrient-rich functional food for improving gut health status of geriatric people” (FTT020504). The positions are for a period of two years at CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru, Karnataka. Details are as follows:
- Project Associate – Level 1 (PAS-01): 2 positions available
Remuneration: Rs. 25,000 plus 18% HRA
The minimum essential qualification, experience, etc., for all the temporary positions are as follows:

Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Microbiology, or Biotechnology.
Job Requirements:
- Food analysis, testing, and R&D
- Microbial diversity analysis, animal experiments, and sequencing data analysis.
Subject panels to be chosen in the portal:

Desirable Qualification/Experience for PAS-I:
Experience in a reputable R&D institute in the areas of food analysis, microbial diversity analysis, testing using modern analytical instruments, and knowledge of MS Office tools will be preferred.
Engagement to the positions of Project Associate Level-I
Note: As per CSIR letter No. 5-1(342)/2015-PD dated 12.01.2023, engagement of Project Staff will be co-terminus with the term of the project. The total period of engagement of a Project Staff in different projects, either in the same lab/institute or different labs/institutes of CSIR, must not exceed 5 years. Therefore, applicants who have completed a total tenure of 5 years in any CSIR lab/institute as Project Staff are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for the advertised positions.
Terms and Conditions:
a) Only candidates who have already acquired the essential qualification and have had their results declared are eligible to apply. Candidates with results awaited, final semester appeared, or appearing are not eligible for any post.
b) The period of experience in a discipline or area of work, wherever prescribed, will be counted after the date of acquiring the minimum prescribed educational qualifications for that post.
c) A designated committee will shortlist applicants according to the current requirement. Shortlisted candidates for the interview will be listed on the CSIR-CFTRI website. No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
d) In the event of a large number of applications, the committee will adopt criteria for short-listing candidates to restrict the number of candidates for interview using one or more methods:
- Percentage of marks obtained in the essential qualification.
- Higher educational qualifications than the minimum prescribed.
- Desirable qualifications or experience.
- Other criteria deemed appropriate by the committee.
e) Based on interview performance, results of selected candidates will be posted on the CFTRI website. A waitlist panel in order of merit will be formed and valid for one year, used if required due to resignation, non-joining, or further project needs.
f) Relaxation in age for SC/ST/PwBD/OBC candidates is applicable as per CSIR/GOI instructions. SC/ST/OBC candidates may be given preference over general candidates when qualifications and experience are equal.
g) The engagement of Project Staff will be co-terminus with the duration of the sponsored/consultancy project. If currently working in CSIR/CSIR-CFTRI, a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the current PI is mandatory for applying. If selected, engagement under this project will be made only after submission of a ‘No Dues Certificate’ and resignation from the previous project.
h) Engagement will initially be for a short duration based on availability of funds, possibly extended or curtailed based on the incumbent’s performance and institute requirements, and further extended based on Review Committee recommendations. Engagement will not extend beyond the project tenure.
i) The maximum duration for which Project Staff could be engaged in different projects combined is 5 years. Candidates who have already served CSIR-CFTRI or any other CSIR lab/institute as Project Staff for a total period of 5 years or more are not eligible.
j) The posts advertised are provisional and subject to ascertaining the availability of funds under the respective project before declaring results and issuing engagement letters.
k) The performance of Project Staff will be reviewed periodically. Underperformance may lead to termination.
l) CSIR-CFTRI reserves the right to cancel or withdraw offers of engagement in case of any discrepancy in an empaneled candidate’s candidature.
m) Candidates applying for any of the above posts should ensure they fulfill the essential qualifications/experience. If they apply without meeting these criteria, it will be assumed they are providing wrong or misleading information, which may result in their disqualification.
n) Other terms and conditions will be governed by guidelines issued by the funding agency/CSIR for engagement of project staff as amended from time to time.
o) The Director, CSIR-CFTRI reserves the right to amend, delete, or add terms & conditions to this notification and reserves the right to cancel the advertisement or not fill the posts, as required. The number of vacancies may vary.
p) CANVASSING IN ANY FORM AND/OR BRINGING ANY INFLUENCE POLITICAL OR OTHERWISE WILL BE TREATED AS A DISQUALIFICATION FOR THE POST.
