Recruitment of Junior Project Fellow (JPF)

Applications are invited from interested and eligible candidates for one post of Junior Project Fellow (JPF) in the project titled “Study on Population, Resource Partitioning and Habitat Utilization for Conservation and Management of Horseshoe Crabs along Odisha Coast” in Zoological Survey of India. The position is for a period of three years, purely on a temporary basis, and will be terminated upon project completion. After completion of two years, the JPF may be upgraded to Senior Project Fellow (SPF) based on satisfactory performance and assessment through an Expert Committee.

Name of the Post: Junior Project Fellow

Educational Qualification: Master’s degree in Zoology / Life Sciences / Biological Sciences or equivalent with Zoology as a major subject in an undergraduate course from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks.

Desirable Qualification: Research experience in taxonomy, systematics, zoology or allied subjects; field survey experience in wildlife; wildlife photography; knowledge of computers and basic field data collection.

Remuneration:

• Rs. 31,000/- plus admissible HRA (as per rules) for CSIR/UGC NET / GATE qualified candidates.
• Rs. 20,000/- plus admissible HRA (as per rules) for non-NET/GATE qualified candidates.

Remarks: Thrust area of research for ZSI JRFs: To study population, resource partitioning, and habitat utilization for conservation and management of horseshoe crabs along the Odisha coast.

The JPF is expected to undertake extensive field surveys in the coastal and marine areas of the east coast of India (West Bengal and Odisha) and, therefore, is required to be physically fit to undertake research in terrain and hostile conditions. The JPF will be posted at Kolkata or Pune based on requirements and shall report to the PI/Co-PI of the project.

General Instructions:

1. Age Limit: Age shall not be more than 28 years as of 30th April 2024. The upper age limit is relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-Non Creamy Layer (NCL)/Women/Physically Challenged applicants.
2. Candidates will be shortlisted based on their qualification and experience. Mere possession of qualification and experience may not lead to an invitation for an interview or selection. Although there is an indication of the number of vacancies, the Director of ZSI reserves the right to select any number of candidates.
3. Shortlisted candidates will be informed through email/WhatsApp to appear before an interview committee virtually.
4. At the time of the verification of original documents (even after selection), if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to willfully conceal, misrepresent, or canvass the facts, such an applicant will not be considered for selection, and due action will be implemented.
5. Candidates selected will be liable to be posted anywhere in the country, including field sites and headquarters, or regional centers of ZSI, and will have to join immediately after selection.
