Possible interview questions may be asked for Project Associate at IISER

1.Can you provide an overview of your research experience in Molecular Biology and Cell Culture experiments?

Answer: Certainly. I have completed my M.Sc in Biology with a focus on Molecular Biology. Over the past two years, I’ve been actively involved in various research projects that required molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, Western blotting, and cell culture experiments. These experiences have provided me with a solid foundation in the field.

2. What motivated you to apply for this specific research project under DBT India Alliance/Welcome Trust UK funding?

Answer: I am highly motivated to contribute to this research project because it aligns perfectly with my research interests and experiences. The opportunity to work on a project related to cancer biology and the chance to be part of cutting-edge research funded by reputed organizations like DBT India Alliance and Welcome Trust UK greatly excites me. Additionally, the project’s focus on Multiple Myeloma cell lines, which I have experience with, makes it even more appealing.

3. Can you describe your experience with Flow Cytometry, Gene cloning, and Lentivirus preparation?

Answer: I have practical experience with Flow Cytometry, where I have analyzed cell populations based on their fluorescent properties. I have also been involved in gene cloning experiments, including PCR amplification, plasmid preparation, and DNA sequencing. Furthermore, I have contributed to the preparation of lentiviral vectors and the transduction of mammalian cancer cells with these vectors as part of previous research projects.

4. What challenges have you faced in your previous research work, and how did you overcome them?

Answer: In my previous research, one notable challenge was optimizing a PCR protocol for amplifying a specific gene. After several unsuccessful attempts, I consulted with my colleagues and reviewed the literature extensively. We identified a potential issue with primer design and made the necessary adjustments. This collaborative approach helped us overcome the challenge, and we successfully obtained the desired PCR product.

5. How do you stay updated with the latest developments and techniques in Molecular Biology?

Answer: To stay updated, I regularly read scientific journals, follow reputable websites, and attend conferences and workshops related to Molecular Biology. I also actively participate in discussions within my research community and network with peers and mentors who share similar research interests. This ensures that I am aware of the latest advancements and techniques in the field.
