Job Purpose
The Associate Scientist – Downstream Process Development will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to develop scalable purification processes. They should have a strong understanding of protein chemistry, preparative chromatography, and/or membrane separation techniques for manufacturing biologics. The individual will also contribute to general lab maintenance, inventory management, and analytical assays as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support designing and execution of experiments for process development
- Draft experimental protocols and seek team lead’s review
- Perform laboratory experiments and document them thoroughly
- Forecast material requirements for assigned projects
- Conduct lab maintenance and inventory management
- Analyze and present research data within the department
- Execute and guide fellow executives in downstream process development
- Collaborate with team members to decide action plans
- Provide regular updates to project leaders and monitor project progress against timelines
Educational Qualification
Master’s degree in Biotechnology.
Technical/Functional Skills
- Knowledge of downstream unit operations for large molecules
- Experience with mammalian cell culture derived mAb and/or non-mAb proteins
- Ability to interpret analytical and process data
- Familiarity with downstream process scale-up principles
- Understanding of Quality by Design (QbD) principles
- Proficiency in handling chromatographic systems
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong documentation skills (report preparation, SOPs, etc.)
- Knowledge of tangential flow filtration and data interpretation
- Proficiency in MS Excel
Experience
5-9 years of experience in downstream process development.
