TIFR Hyderabad JRF Job Position of Junior Research Fellow in Cell Biology and Structural Biology at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Hyderabad

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Hyderabad is inviting applications for two Junior
Research Fellow positions for cell & molecular biology and biochemistry & biophysics
research in the labs of Dr. Manish Jaiswal and Dr. Anand T Vaidya. The 1st project
aims to understand the genetic and molecular mechanism of mitochondrial quality
control/biogenesis and metabolic diseases using Drosophila and human cell lines. The
project involves genetic screening, genome editing, genomics, proteomics, histology
and confocal imaging. The 2nd project aims to understand the molecular details of
mitochondrial cristae architecture using structural biology approaches. The project
involves protein expression and purification, followed by biophysical and biochemical
analyses.

Eligbility Criteria:

Candidates with MSc / BTech or equivalent degrees and qualified
NET/GATE/DBT/ICMR or similar national-level exams will be eligible for the JRF
position (Rs. 31 000 + HRA). Selected individuals will be part of an interdisciplinary
research environment with opportunities to learn classic and state-of-the-art research
technologies. The initial position is only for one year, which can be further extended.

The application deadline is 25th August 2023.

Possible Interview Questions at This TIFR Job:

Can you explain your understanding of the two projects mentioned in the job description?

Answer: The first project involves investigating the genetic and molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial quality control/biogenesis and metabolic diseases using Drosophila and human cell lines. This will include tasks such as genetic screening, genome editing, genomics, proteomics, histology, and confocal imaging. The second project focuses on understanding the molecular details of mitochondrial cristae architecture using structural biology methods. It will require protein expression, purification, followed by biophysical and biochemical analyses.

How does your educational background and experience align with the requirements for this Junior Research Fellow position?

Answer: I hold an MSc degree in Cell Biology and have experience working with molecular biology techniques. Additionally, I have qualified the GATE examination in Life Sciences, which indicates my proficiency in the subject matter.

Can you provide an example of a relevant research project you’ve worked on in the past that demonstrates your skills in either genetic screening or structural biology?

Answer: During my academic tenure, I participated in a research project involving genetic screening of yeast cells to identify novel genes associated with cell division. This experience honed my ability to design experiments and analyze data effectively.

The projects at TIFR involve interdisciplinary work. How do you plan to collaborate and communicate with colleagues from different research backgrounds?

Answer: I believe effective communication is key in interdisciplinary projects. I will actively engage in discussions, sharing insights and seeking guidance from colleagues with different expertise. This collaborative approach ensures that the project benefits from diverse perspectives.

At TIFR The initial position is for one year. How would you approach your work to ensure productive contributions within this time frame?
