Applications are invited from interested and highly motivated candidates for the post of one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in a time bound research project funded by CSIR, GOI, New Delhi as per the following details:

Position: Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)

Number of Vacancy: 01 (One)

Project Title: Screening of bioactive principles from micro flora of traditional fermented foods as quorum quenching-based novel food preservatives and therapeutic agents

Department: Department of Food Science and Technology, School of Life Sciences, Pondicherry University

Project Tenure: 03 Years or completion of the project, whichever is earlier. The tenure of the fellow appointed in this scheme is co-terminus with the scheme. The offer will
be initially for One Year that can be extended further based on performance.

Principal Investigator: Dr. H. Prathap Kumar Shetty, Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, School of Life Sciences.

Age Limit and Relaxation: Not more than 28 Years. The upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST/OBC, Women and Physically Challenged candidates (as per CSIR, Govt. of India norms).

Job Description:
The fellow has to assist the PI in the execution of the above project which includes microbiological, biochemical and in vitro cell culture based techniques. Fellow is also responsible for day today project documentation and management, preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication.

Essential Qualification: As per CSIR guidelines for Research scheme (www.csirhrdg.res.in)
  • BS 4 years programme/Integrated BS-MS/M.Sc. or equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks in Food Science/ Food Technology/ Biotechnology/Biochemistry/ Microbiology with NET-LS/GATE qualified in the relevant subject.
Desirable qualification: Expertise in microbiological and molecular biological techniques.

Fellowship :

Rs.31,000/-per month(for first two years) and Rs.35,000/-per month (third year, upon upgradation) House rent allowance (HRA) and Medical allowance (MA): In addition to stipend, the fellow will be entitled to: (i) HRA, as per Pondicherry University rules, provided he/she has not been given hostel accommodation (stipend paid/payable will be treated as pay for the purpose of HRA), (ii) MA, as admissible as per the rules of the Pondicherry University to its employees (this will be limited to the fellow only and not for family members/dependents).

Important Terms: (i) Only Indian citizens are eligible for research fellowship. (ii) The award of fellowship does not imply any assurance or guarantee for subsequent employment by CSIR or at Pondicherry University. (iii) The post is entirely temporary and has been sanctioned for the execution of the project. The services of the selected candidate will be governed by the rules/ regulation of the CSIR and Pondicherry University but he will neither be an employee of the CSIR nor the Pondicherry University and shall have no claim for any benefit whatsoever on that account.

  • The online application should reach on or before 20th of July, 2023. All the applications will be scrutinized by the duly constituted screening committee and Shortlisted candidates will be notified through Email only.
  • Selection will be done on the basis of interview by the duly constituted selection committee. Original certificates and self-attested copies of all certificates need to be presented before the interview for verification.
  • Pondicherry University reserves the right to withdraw the advertised post at any time without if the circumstances so warrant. The right is also reserved with the University/PI either to fill or not to fill the post and its decision, in this regard shall be final.
  • Mere eligibility will not entitle any candidate for being called for Interview.
  • No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
  • The eligibility of the candidates will be determined as on the last date fixed for receipt of application forms.
  • The position is purely temporary, co terminating with the project and services will be governed as per Pondicherry University and/or CSIR rules.
