Are you eager to apply for the JRF job at IISER Mohali? Looking for some ways to prepare? Then check out the 5 possible interview questions along with their answers below.

  1. Can you describe your experience and training with extraction of plant samples? Have you worked with any specific techniques or methodologies? Answer: In my previous research experience, I have actively participated in the extraction of plant samples. I have hands-on training in techniques such as solvent extraction, maceration, and solid-liquid extraction. I am familiar with the use of various solvents and their effects on different plant components.
  2. How proficient are you in NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry? Can you provide examples of your experience in utilizing these analytical techniques? Answer: I have a strong foundation in NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. During my master’s program, I have worked extensively with NMR instruments, including data acquisition, interpretation, and spectral analysis. I have also utilized mass spectrometry for the identification and quantification of metabolites in biological samples.
  3. Can you discuss any specific projects or research work where you applied metabolomics techniques? How did you analyze and interpret the obtained NMR metabolomics data? Answer: During my research projects, I have applied metabolomics techniques, particularly NMR metabolomics, to investigate the composition and metabolic profiles of herbal Ayurvedic medicines. I employed multivariate data analysis methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) to analyze the obtained NMR data. By comparing metabolite profiles, I identified unique biomarkers and patterns related to different herbal formulations.
  4. How have you ensured the quality and accuracy of NMR metabolomics data in your previous research work? Have you encountered any challenges during data acquisition and processing? Answer: Ensuring quality and accuracy in NMR metabolomics data is crucial. I have followed strict quality control measures during data acquisition, including standard sample preparation, instrument calibration, and spectral referencing. Additionally, I conducted regular maintenance and performance checks on the NMR instrument. Challenges may arise due to sample variability, spectral overlap, or data preprocessing, but I utilized appropriate data filtering and statistical methods to address these challenges.
  5. How do you plan to contribute to the benchmarking of herbal Ayurvedic medicines using NMR metabolomics techniques in this project? What unique skills or perspectives can you bring to the team? Answer: In this project, I aim to contribute by utilizing my expertise in metabolomics and NMR spectroscopy to investigate the composition and quality of herbal Ayurvedic medicines. I have a strong foundation in biochemistry and analytical chemistry, which allows me to understand the biochemical basis of herbal formulations. Additionally, my experience with data analysis and interpretation will help in identifying potential biomarkers and evaluating the efficacy of different herbal preparations.

Remember, these are sample questions and answers. It’s essential to tailor your responses to your own experience, skills, and knowledge.
