WALK IN INTERVIEW

Eligible candidates are invited to attend Walk in Interview to fill up the (purely) temporary post of Senior Research Fellow (Two) under the IIOR-IRRI collaborative project titled “Promoting inclusive seed systems for accelerating cropping systems diversification” to be held on 08.08.2023 at 11.00 AM at ICAR – Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The tenure of the project is up to 31.03.2024 or till conclusion of the project. The requirement and other terms and conditions for the Senior Research Fellow are as under

Terms and conditions:-

  1. Place of posting is ICAR-IIOR, Hyderabad. Work place may be at any place in Telangana.
  2. The above position is purely temporary on contractual basis for a period of six months initially which is likely to be extended till the conclusion of the project, based on satisfactory performance of the incumbent, or until further orders whichever is earlier. There is no provision of re-engagement after termination of the project. The selected candidate shall not claim for regular appointment at this institute as the post is co-terminus with the project.
  3. Age limit as on 01.08.2023: Minimum of 21 years and maximum age limit is 35 years for man and 40 years for women as per rules. Relaxation in upper age is permissible in case of SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates as per Govt. of India. Rules applicable to the external funded project.
  4. No TA /DA and official accommodation will be provided for appearing in the walk in interview. Selected candidates have to make their own arrangement to stay at the place of work.
  5. Candidates are requested to carry all original relevant documents / certificates along with set of attested photocopies. Photograph and duly filled in application form on the date of interview. They may attend the interview only if they fulfill the essential as well as the desired qualifications
  6. Candidates may register their candidature from 9.30 am to 10.30 am only on 08.08.2023.
  7. The decision of the Director, IIOR, Hyderabad will be final and binding in all aspects.

Essential qualifications: MSc. (Ag) with specialization in plant Breeding / Agronomy or any other discipline in agriculture science (Or) MSc.(Biotechnology / Botany) with NET (by ICAR, CSIR and UGC)

Desirable qualifications: Experience in crop raising and maintenance, in recording of qualitative and quantitative data and working knowledge of computers

Emoluments : Rs.31,000/- + HRA as admissible

Answer: I hold an MSc. in Agriculture with a specialization in Plant Breeding. During my studies, I focused on agronomy and gained in-depth knowledge of crop sciences. Additionally, I have experience in biotechnology and botany, which I believe complements the project’s objectives. Moreover, I have qualified the NET exam conducted by ICAR, CSIR, and UGC.
  1. Question: What experience do you have in crop raising and maintenance, as well as recording qualitative and quantitative data? Answer: During my academic pursuits and previous research projects, I actively participated in crop raising experiments and field trials. I have hands-on experience in monitoring and maintaining crops, ensuring proper cultivation practices, and managing various agricultural tasks. Additionally, I have diligently recorded qualitative and quantitative data related to plant growth, yields, and agronomic parameters, using advanced data collection methods.
  1. Question: How would you contribute to promoting inclusive seed systems for accelerating cropping systems diversification? Answer: I believe that promoting inclusive seed systems involves understanding the needs and challenges of diverse farming communities. I would collaborate with stakeholders and farmers to identify suitable crop varieties that align with their local agro-ecological conditions. Additionally, I would work towards disseminating knowledge about improved seed varieties, providing training on sustainable farming practices, and ensuring the accessibility of quality seeds to smallholder farmers. This would ultimately contribute to crop diversification and enhance agricultural sustainability.
  1. Question: Describe a situation where you had to handle a complex research problem. How did you approach it, and what were the outcomes? Answer: During my master’s research project, I encountered a challenging issue related to disease resistance in a particular crop variety. To address this problem, I conducted extensive literature reviews and consulted with experts in the field. I designed a series of experiments to screen for resistant traits and implemented a rigorous data analysis process. As a result, we identified a promising resistant variety and developed recommendations for its utilization in disease-prone regions. The findings were published in a scientific journal, contributing to the scientific community’s knowledge.
  1. Question: How comfortable are you with using computers for data analysis and reporting? Can you mention any specific software you are proficient in? Answer: I am very comfortable using computers for data analysis and reporting. I have expertise in various software, including Microsoft Excel for data management and statistical analysis. Additionally, I have experience with statistical software like R and SPSS for more advanced data analysis and visualization. Furthermore, I am proficient in using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for creating reports and presentations to effectively communicate research findings.
