Walk-in-Interview at ICAR-IARI. Here are Possible interview questions along with answers for Young Professional-I Post

1. Question: The job requires experience in DNA isolation, RT-PCR, and other molecular biology techniques. Can you tell us about your specific experience in these areas and how you have applied these skills in a practical setting? Answer: During my academic journey and previous internships, I have gained hands-on experience in DNA isolation, RT-PCR, and various molecular biology techniques. For instance, in my final year project, I conducted DNA isolation from plant samples and successfully analyzed gene expression patterns using RT-PCR. Additionally, I collaborated on a research project where we applied these techniques to study genetic variations in crop plants. This experience has equipped me with the ability to design and perform experiments independently, troubleshoot technical challenges, and accurately interpret experimental results.

2. Question: The Young Professional-I position involves field experimentation and data recording in the field and glasshouse. Could you provide an example of a research project you were involved in that required these skills? Answer: Certainly. During my internship at a renowned agricultural research institute, I worked on a project evaluating the growth performance of different wheat varieties under varying climatic conditions. I conducted field experiments, and meticulously recorded growth parameters, such as plant height, number of tillers, and grain yield, at different stages of crop development. Additionally, I monitored environmental factors and made real-time observations in the glasshouse to study the impact of controlled conditions on plant growth. This project honed my ability to execute field trials efficiently, record data accurately, and draw valuable insights to contribute to scientific publications.

3. Question: The position mentions that it is purely temporary and time-bound until March 2024. How do you plan to ensure your commitment to the role during this period and make a meaningful contribution to the research activities? Answer: Although the position is temporary, I view it as an excellent opportunity to apply my skills and knowledge to contribute to the important research conducted at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute. To ensure my commitment, I will approach the role with dedication and professionalism, fully immersing myself in the assigned responsibilities. I believe in the value of every research project, no matter the duration, and I am eager to contribute to the team’s objectives. Throughout the period, I will actively seek opportunities for skill development and knowledge enhancement to make the most significant impact during my tenure.

4. Question: The job advertisement mentions that candidates should be familiar with NET/GATE qualifications. If you haven’t undergone these examinations, how do you plan to compensate for this requirement? Answer: While I haven’t obtained NET/GATE qualification, I have consistently strived for academic excellence and practical proficiency in the relevant areas. My B.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences has provided me with a strong foundation in the molecular biology techniques mentioned in the job description. Additionally, my experience in field experimentation and data recording has allowed me to apply these skills in a research context effectively. I am confident that my academic achievements and practical experiences demonstrate my capabilities and passion for the subject matter, which will enable me to excel in the Young Professional-I role.

5. Question: The position requires candidates to perform duties for their respective sections without fail. How do you ensure effective time management and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines? Answer: Effective time management is crucial for ensuring successful project execution. In my previous roles and academic endeavors, I have adopted various strategies to manage my time efficiently. I believe in creating a detailed work plan, outlining tasks and their respective deadlines. By prioritizing assignments based on urgency and complexity, I can allocate sufficient time and resources to each task. Additionally, I am adept at multitasking and adapt well to dynamic work environments. Regularly communicating with team members and project leaders to discuss progress and potential challenges also allows me to address any issues promptly and meet project deadlines effectively.
