Applications are invited for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in an India Alliance DBTWellcome Trust funded project in the laboratory of lipid metabolism in the Department of Biotechnology, AIIMS, New Delhi.

Desirable Qualification: Experience in molecular biology techniques, fluorescence microscopy, and handling of mammalian cells. Prior experience of working with yeast as a model system would be an advantage but not essential.
Fellowship Amount: JRF @ Rs. 31,000/- p.m. + 24% HRA (1st and 2nd year)

- Question: Can you describe your educational background and how it aligns with the requirements for this JRF position? Answer: I have completed my M.Sc. in Biotechnology and possess a strong foundation in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry. I have also qualified NET/GATE, which makes me eligible for this role at AIIMS, New Delhi.
- Question: The project focuses on “Molecular Mechanisms of Lipid Droplet Biogenesis.” What interests you the most about this research area, and what specific skills or knowledge do you bring to contribute effectively to the project? Answer: I find lipid metabolism and the formation of lipid droplets intriguing as they play crucial roles in cellular processes. My experience in molecular biology techniques and fluorescence microscopy will be valuable in studying the mechanisms of lipid droplet biogenesis. Moreover, my proficiency in handling mammalian cells will enable me to carry out relevant experiments.
- Question: Have you previously worked with yeast as a model system? If yes, can you share your experiences and the type of research you conducted with yeast? Answer: While I haven’t worked extensively with yeast, I do have some experience with it during my academic projects. I studied its role as a model organism in understanding cellular processes, particularly in relation to lipid metabolism. Though not essential for the role, I am eager to expand my knowledge in this area.
- Question: The project involves handling and analyzing data from molecular biology experiments. How do you ensure accuracy and reliability when working with experimental data? Answer: Ensuring accuracy and reliability in data analysis is crucial. I maintain detailed records of my experimental procedures and take careful note of any deviations. Additionally, I cross-validate results whenever possible and seek guidance from mentors to verify data integrity.
- Question: The fellowship requires effective communication and collaboration. Can you share an experience where you worked successfully as part of a team, either during your academic studies or in a previous research project? Answer: During my M.Sc. program, I participated in a group research project that involved investigating gene expression patterns in response to environmental stress. We collaborated closely, dividing tasks based on individual strengths, and communicated regularly to discuss progress and findings. Our teamwork resulted in a successful project presentation and publication of our research.
