Possible Interview Questions for the posts of JRF & Lab Assistant vacancies at NIBMG:
- Can you elaborate on your research experience in genomics or human genetics? Specifically, highlight any projects or studies you have been involved in. Answer: During my research journey, I have actively engaged in projects focusing on genomics and human genetics. For example, I have worked on studying the genetic factors influencing susceptibility to infectious diseases and understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying drug resistance emergence. I have also conducted experiments to analyze and interpret genomic data, applying molecular genetics techniques and functional assays. These research experiences have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of genomics and its applications in studying human health and disease.
- How familiar are you with the multi-pronged approach to studying tuberculosis susceptibility and drug resistance emergence? Can you provide examples of techniques or methodologies you would employ in this research? Answer: I am well-versed in the multi-pronged approach to studying tuberculosis susceptibility and drug resistance emergence. This approach involves integrating host genomics, functional genomics, and clinical parameters. To investigate host genomics, I would employ techniques such as DNA sequencing, genotyping, and variant analysis to identify genetic variants associated with susceptibility or drug resistance. For functional genomics, I would utilize gene expression profiling, knockdown or overexpression experiments, and pathway analysis to understand the molecular mechanisms involved. Additionally, I would critically assess clinical parameters such as treatment outcomes and patient characteristics to correlate with genetic findings.
- Can you discuss your experience in collecting biospecimens and conducting molecular genetics experiments? What specific protocols or procedures have you followed in previous research projects? Answer: I have extensive experience in collecting biospecimens and conducting molecular genetics experiments. I have followed strict protocols to ensure the integrity and quality of biospecimens during collection and storage. In molecular genetics experiments, I have performed DNA or RNA extractions, PCR amplification, genotyping, and sequencing. Additionally, I have conducted gene expression analyses using techniques like RT-PCR or RNA-seq. I am well-versed in experimental design, optimization of protocols, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable and reproducible results.
- How comfortable are you with data analysis in the context of genomics research? Can you provide examples of the tools or software you have utilized for data analysis? Answer: I am highly proficient in data analysis in the context of genomics research. I have experience in analyzing high-throughput sequencing data, microarray data, or gene expression datasets. I have utilized bioinformatics tools such as alignment software, variant callers, and differential expression analysis tools to process and interpret genomic data. Additionally, I am skilled in programming languages such as R or Python to perform statistical analysis, data visualization, and pathway analysis. My expertise in data analysis equips me to derive meaningful insights from complex genomic datasets.
- Can you discuss any specific functional assays you have performed in the context of molecular genetics experiments? How did you design and interpret the results of these assays? Answer: I have designed and conducted various functional assays to investigate the functional implications of genetic variants or molecular pathways. For example, I have performed cell-based assays to assess the impact of specific gene knockdown or overexpression on cellular phenotypes. These assays often involve techniques such as cell culture, transfection, gene silencing (siRNA), or gene overexpression (plasmid transfection). I have then interpreted the results by analyzing changes in cellular behavior, protein expression, or downstream signaling pathways. The combination of functional assays with genomics data provides valuable insights into the biological consequences of genetic variations.
Note: The provided answers serve as general guidelines, and it is essential for the candidate to tailor their responses based on their specific research experiences and expertise.
