Applications are invited from Indian Nationals for a walk in interview on 26th June, 2023 (11.00 am to 2.00 pm) at Botanical Survey of India, Lower New Colony, Laitumkhrah, Shillong for four different projects on “Exploration and Documentation of Wild Edible Plants of Northeast India – for the states Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura”.

Duration: The selection and engagement of research personnel is purely

temporary for a period of 2 years and co-terminus with the project.

Age Limit: 35 years as on 26/06/2023 Relaxable as per Govt. of India norms.

Fellowship amount: Rs.31,000/- plus 18% HRA

Answer: To explore and document wild edible plants, I would conduct field surveys in diverse habitats, including forests, grasslands, and agricultural areas. I would collect plant specimens, document their morphological features, note their distribution patterns, and interact with local communities to gather information on traditional uses and culinary practices. I would also employ taxonomic methods and modern techniques like DNA barcoding for accurate identification and classification.
4. Question: Have you conducted any previous research or projects related to wild edible plants or ethnobotany? Answer: During my M.Sc., I had the opportunity to work on a research project focusing on the ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants in a specific region. Although it was not specifically focused on wild edible plants, the experience allowed me to develop essential skills for conducting similar research.

Answer: I am passionate about the rich biodiversity of Northeast India and the conservation of traditional knowledge related to wild edible plants. I would actively participate in field expeditions, collect accurate data, and document the identified plant species. Additionally, I would collaborate with local communities and stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of preserving these resources and promote sustainable practices for their utilization.
