Contractual Engagement of Project Personnel

WALK- IN / ON LINE INTERVIEW

The Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun invites applications from Indian nationals for a walk-in interview to recruit research personnel for the different projects purely on contractual basis. The work description, essential and desirable qualifications, age and the consolidated monthly emoluments including all allowances for the required position is given below:

A. Project: Species Conservation Program CAMPA- DOLPHIN

Post I

Position Name: Project Associate – I Ecology/ Genetics

No. of posts – (02 positions)

Age Limit* – 35

Duration – 12 months

Essential Qualification (EQ): M.Sc. in any Life Sciences/Biological Science/ Genetics/ Biotechnology

Desirable Qualification (DQ): Experience in molecular biology.

Work Description

– Candidates will assist in molecular biology aspects related to conservation of Gangetic dolphins and riverine ecology in general

Emoluments & Location: 31,000/ + HRA*

B. Range wide population estimation of River dolphins in India

Post II

Position Name: Project Associate-I

No. of posts – (03 positions)

Age Limit* – 35

Duration – 12 months

Essential Qualification (EQ): Masters degree in Biological Sciences /Wildlife / Fisheries/Forestry/ Environment/ Botany/ Zoology/ Geoinformatics / Biodiversity Conservation or any Life Sciences
Or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent (as per DST norms)

Desirable Qualification (DQ):

  • Aptitude for field work.
  • Experience of working on in aquatic ecosystem.
  • Experience of working in MS Office, good oral and written communication skills.

Work Description – Candidate will carry out enumeration of Ganges and Indus River dolphins in India and will monitor the status of associated aquatic biodiversity in Ganga and Brahmaputra River systems under the supervision of Project Scientist and Investigators

Emoluments & Location: 31,000/ + HRA*

Post III

Position Name: Project Assistant

No. of posts – (04 positions)

Age Limit* – 50

Duration – 12 months

Essential Qualification (EQ): B.Sc. in Biological Sciences /Wildlife / Fisheries/Forestry/ Environment/ Botany/Zoology/ Geoinformatics / Genetics/ Biodiversity Conservation / Engineering/ Technology/ any life sciences (or ) 3 years Diploma in Engineering & Technology

Desirable Qualification (DQ):

  • Aptitude for field work.
  • Experience of working on in aquatic ecosystem

D. Scientific Research Study for Rewilding of the Protected Areas of Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve

Post IV

Position Name: Project Associate

No. of posts – (01 positions)

Age Limit* – 35

Duration – 10 months

Essential Qualification (EQ): Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Sciences/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University

Desirable Qualification (DQ): Candidate(s) with prior experience in vegetation sampling, plant identification, camera trapping, ecological sampling techniques and animal abundance estimation will be preferred. Able to do field work in harsh condition.

Work Description – Field work related to vegetation sampling, and animal abundance. Data processing and analysis, Report writing.

Emoluments & Location: 31,000/ + HRA*

E. Project Cheetah “Bringing the Cheetah Back to India

Post V

Position Name: Research Assistants

No. of posts – (05 positions)

Age Limit* – 31

Duration – 06 months

Essential Qualification (EQ): Bachelor degree in Sciences (B.Sc.) Wildlife Science/ Forestry/ Environmental Science/Zoology/ Life Science/ Marine Science or related subjects

Desirable Qualification (DQ): Experience of working in wildlife surveys, good knowledge of using Microsoft excel/word.

Work Description – Need hardworking dedicated candidates to carryout various activities in field, monitoring carnivores and herbivores in the wilderness. Spending long hours in the wilderness, in harsh climate and rough terrains.

Emoluments & Location: 20,000/- + HRA* as admissible

*Project will also try to provide accommodation and only if accommodation is not available, HRA as per the admissible norms will be paid to the researchers.

General Terms & Conditions

Mode of selection:

  1. The selection of the candidates will be in accordance with the performance in the interview and in order of merit as decided by the Interview Committee. All original documents should be produced at the time of the interview. The decision of the Institute’s Committee in all matters relating to eligibility, work experience, acceptance or rejection of the application will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained from any individual.
  2. The candidates are required to submit their completed application forms in PDF format, with accompanying attachments, by email (with the subject line: “Application for the post of ___(Post Name)___ in Project ‘_____(Project Name)____’ to [email protected] with cc to [email protected] not later than 1700 hrs on 03 May 2023. A hard copy of the application along with attachments (with subject line: “Application for the post of __(post name)__ in the Project ‘_____(Project Name)____’ should also be sent by post to The Registrar, Wildlife Institute of India, Chandrabani, Dehradun 248001, Uttarakhand.
  3. Application forms need to be typed according to the prescribed format and must be accompanied by self attested: (a) Scanned copies of educational qualifications, and (b) Scanned copies of experience letter/ certificate, failing which applications will not be considered.
  4. Candidates must clearly mention in their e-mail/hard copy about the preferred mode of interview (on-line or interview in person).
  5. The applications received after the deadline will be rejected by the Institute.
  6. The shortlisted candidates will be notified (through email and website notification) for online personal interview by 11 May 2023. The online interview will be held starting from 15th May, 2023 – 19th May, 2023, the details of which will be shared subsequently.
  7. At the time of verification of original documents, if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to wilfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, his/her candidature will not be considered.
  8. The positions advertised are purely temporary/ contractual for the project period only and will stand abolished after the completion of the project.
  9. The tenure in the project will be governed by the Institute’s rules and regulations
  10. After the announcement of the results, the candidate should join the project immediately.
  11. The Director, WII reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason thereof.

  1. What experience do you have in molecular biology? Answer: I have a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences with specialization in molecular biology. I have also worked on molecular biology projects during my previous job, which involved the extraction and analysis of DNA and RNA from various samples.
  2. Have you worked on any projects related to aquatic ecosystems? Answer: Yes, during my previous job, I worked on a project related to the study of marine biodiversity. I was responsible for the collection and analysis of water and sediment samples to study the impact of pollution on the marine ecosystem.
  3. How do you plan to carry out enumeration of Ganges and Indus River dolphins in India? Answer: I plan to use a combination of visual surveys and acoustic monitoring techniques to carry out the enumeration of River dolphins. Visual surveys would involve boat-based surveys along the river stretches, while acoustic monitoring would involve using hydrophones to detect dolphin vocalizations.
  4. What experience do you have in vegetation sampling and plant identification? Answer: I have prior experience in vegetation sampling and plant identification. I have worked on several projects that involved the collection and identification of plant specimens from various ecosystems.
  5. What knowledge do you have in using Microsoft Excel/Word? Answer: I have good knowledge of using Microsoft Excel/Word. I have used these tools extensively in my previous job to analyze data and prepare reports. I am also familiar with other data analysis tools like R and Python.
