SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAMME – 2023
S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences announces Summer Research Programme – 2023 to be conducted during the period from 01/05/2023 to 15/07/2023.
[A] Eligibility
Students in first / second year of M.Sc. or 4th / 5th year of Integrated M.Sc. in Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences (including Physics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Optics and/or Photonics, Applied Physics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biophysics
, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Electronics, Engineering Physics, Material Sciences, Nanotechnology)[B] Duration
The project will be for a period of eight weeks (with no break) under the supervision of a Faculty Member of SNBNCBS. Extensions are not allowed.
[C] Salient Points
- This is not equivalent to an M.Sc. dissertation.
- On-campus accommodation may be provided based on the request and availability of hostels rooms on the basis of rent (currently Rs. 100/- per day).
- Access to computational and library facilities will be provided as per rule of the Centre.
- Each candidate must submit a formal Joining Letter on joining
- Candidates who have INSPIRE or other funding support for the Summer Project must mention it clearly in their application.
- At the end of the project, students are required to give a presentation on their work and also submit a project report for the award of completion certificate
- Selected candidates must abide by the rules and regulations applicable to the regular students of SNBNCBS
[D] Financial Support
Selected students who are funded by SNBNCBS will receive
- Rs 2,000 per week to cover the all the expenses including hostel fee
- return AC III tier train fare for the shortest route between their place of work/residence and nearest railway station to SNBNCBS

Note:
- Students must contact (through email) and get the consent of the respective faculty members before submitting the online application. The list of members of the faculty of the Centre and their fields of research are available on the website of the Centre www.bose.res.in.
- The updated CV should be uploaded during the online application.
- One recommendation letter (scanned copy duly signed on the official letterhead) should be uploaded by the referee through the online form (https://forms.gle/zt2mpGsejbPd7Qqy8) by the concerned Head of the Department or by a senior member of the Faculty, who has taught the student.

- What inspired you to apply for the Summer Research Programme at SNBNCBS, and what are your research interests?
Answer: I have a passion for the physical and mathematical sciences, and I am interested in exploring new discoveries in these fields. I was particularly drawn to the research opportunities offered by the SNBNCBS Summer Research Programme, which will allow me to work closely with a faculty member in my chosen field of study. - Can you describe your academic achievements and relevant research experience that makes you a strong candidate for this programme?
Answer: I have consistently maintained a good academic record, with a strong focus on physical, mathematical, and chemical sciences. In addition, I have gained some experience in research projects in my undergraduate programme, which I believe will enable me to contribute to the SNBNCBS Summer Research Programme. I have also obtained one recommendation letter from a senior faculty member who has taught me. - What do you hope to gain from participating in the Summer Research Programme at SNBNCBS?
Answer: I hope to gain valuable experience in research techniques, theoretical and practical knowledge, and problem-solving skills. I also hope to develop my communication skills by presenting my work at the end of the project and submitting a project report. - What do you think are the biggest challenges that you may face during the eight-week programme, and how do you plan to overcome them?
Answer: One of the biggest challenges may be working under pressure to complete the project within the given timeframe. I plan to overcome this by staying focused and disciplined in my work, and seeking guidance and support from my supervisor whenever needed. Another challenge may be adapting to a new environment, but I believe that living on campus and engaging with other participants will help me overcome this challenge.
