The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati is an autonomous R&D Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The Institute is engaged in frontier areas of research in the specific domain of Physical, Chemical, Mathematical and Life Sciences. The Institute’s aim is to contribute to basic sciences and develop technology using local resources through strong interdisciplinary research approach across different divisions. Application Procedure – Interested candidates should apply online at the institute website (www.iasst.gov.in) within 15 days from the date of publication of the advertisement. Incomplete applications and those received after the closing date will not be entertained. Candidates should submit a No Objection Certificate from the parent institute during online application submission. Those who are unable to submit NOC during the application process should upload a self-declaration certificate. NOC submission is compulsory before joining the internship/ dissertation/training at IASST
Selection Procedure – Selection will be based on merit (based on last semester’s marks) and the selected candidate’s list will be uploaded to the IASST website. The decisions of the admission committee will be final and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
Internship/ dissertation/training fee –
- Candidates selected for project dissertation/training will have to pay a nonrefundable fee of Rs. 2500 per month towards laboratory/chemical/equipment handling cost.
- Candidates selected for internship will not be charged any fee
Accommodation – Accommodation in the institute Dormitory is subject to its availability during the joining date. Preference will be given to students from outside Guwahati.
The internship programme will start in June 2023 and the dissertation/training from July 2023.
IASST’s Right – If suitable candidates are not found in any discipline, IASST reserves the right not to fill up its position for the summer/winter sessions.

- Can you tell us about your previous research experience and how it has prepared you for this internship?
Answer: I have worked on various research projects during my undergraduate studies in Biotechnology, including the characterization of microbial bioactive metabolites. This has given me hands-on experience in laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific writing, which I believe will be useful for this internship at IASST. - What skills and qualities do you possess that make you suitable for this internship?
Answer: I possess good analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with team members. Additionally, I am passionate about science and eager to learn new things. I believe these qualities make me suitable for this internship. - Can you describe your understanding of the subject area that you have applied for?
Answer: I have a good understanding of the subject area of Phytopharmaceuticals for metabolic syndrome as it relates to the fields of pharmaceutical sciences, molecular pharmacology, and ethnopharmacology. I have taken courses in these areas and have done research on the bioactive compounds present in plants that can be used for medicinal purposes. - What do you hope to achieve during your internship/dissertation at IASST?
Answer: During my internship/dissertation at IASST, I hope to gain more practical experience in the field of biotechnology and learn about the latest research techniques and instruments. Additionally, I hope to contribute to ongoing research projects and develop my scientific writing and communication skills. - How do you plan to use the knowledge and experience gained from this internship in your future career?
Answer: I plan to use the knowledge and experience gained from this internship to pursue a career in research and development, specifically in the area of biotechnology and drug discovery. I believe the hands-on experience and exposure to cutting-edge research at IASST will be invaluable in achieving this goal.
