About the job
Adverse pregnancy outcomes are a significant burden for women, particularly in low-income countries where access to medical care is limited. To predict gestational age and preterm birth accurately in such areas, alternative methods like clinical and molecular markers should be explored. However, it is important to tailor these models to the specific population being studied to increase their accuracy. As part of this position, the scientist is required to develop novel algorithms for integration and analysis of multi-omic data.
Eligibility:
- Candidates must have completed their PhD in Bioinformatics or related fields
- At least two years experience in application of AI/ML in multi-omics projects, such as transcriptomics and proteomics
- Strong communication, data presentation and visualization skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Shortlisting criteria:
- Academic pedigree, performance
- PhD research area and list of publications
- Proficiency in programming
- Experience in bioinformatics/ teaching
- Contribution to open-source projects will be a plus
Benefits:

- Can you explain your experience with AI/ML in multi-omics projects?
Answer: Yes, I have more than two years of experience in applying AI/ML algorithms in the analysis of transcriptomics and proteomics data. I have worked on various projects related to gene expression profiling, differential gene expression analysis, and gene network inference using machine learning techniques. - Can you describe your proficiency in programming and the tools you have used in your previous projects?
Answer: I have strong programming skills in Python, R, and Perl languages. I have used various tools like Bioconductor, DESeq2, Limma, and ClustalW for data analysis and visualization. I also have experience in developing pipelines for processing large-scale genomics and transcriptomics data. - How do you plan to tailor the multi-omics data analysis algorithms to specific populations in low-income countries to increase their accuracy?
Answer: I plan to identify specific molecular markers that are relevant to the population being studied by integrating various data types like genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. I will use machine learning algorithms to identify the most informative features and develop predictive models that can accurately predict gestational age and preterm birth. - How do you ensure effective communication and collaboration with team members from diverse backgrounds and expertise?
Answer: I believe in establishing clear communication channels and regular updates with team members to ensure that everyone is aware of project goals and progress. I also encourage an open and collaborative environment where ideas and feedback are shared freely. I am willing to learn from my team members and provide support whenever needed.
