IISER-K Summer Student Research Programme 2023

Objective

To provide B.Sc., M.Sc., B.S., M.S., B.Tech., and B.E. students of Institutions or Universities across the world an opportunity of exposure to a research environment by associating them with one of the Research Groups of IISER during the summer vacation.

Salient Points

(a) IISER Kolkata will run an online summer research program for 2023.
(b) Students may also work in an offline mode if permitted by the project supervisor provided they arrange their accommodation.
(c) IISER Kolkata hostel accommodation will not be available for offline summer students.
(d) IISER Kolkata will not provide any fellowship for the Summer Research Programme 2023.
(e) Any student who decides to join the project should agree to devote at

least 5 to 6 hours a day to the project work for 60 days.
(f) Upon completion of the internship, the student needs to submit the project report to the supervisor and if the supervisor approves the summer project report, then the student will be provided with a certificate.
(g) The certificate will be sent via email.

• The application portal opens – on 24th March 2023.
• The application portal closes – on 10th April 2023 at midnight.
• Publication of list of selected candidates – 17th April 2023.
• Duration of the programme – 16th May – 15th July 2023. (60 days in this time frame)

Hello there dear students, like mentioned above here are the list of possible interview questions that you may have to answer while selected for the IISER-K Summer Student Research Programme.

1. What motivated you to apply for the IISER-K Summer Student Research Programme?
   Answer: I have always been interested in pursuing research and gaining exposure to a research environment. The IISER-K Summer Student Research Programme offers a great opportunity to work with esteemed faculty members in a research group during the summer vacation, which motivated me to apply for the program.
2. How do you plan to balance the research work with other commitments during the program?
   Answer: I understand the importance of devoting at least 5 to 6 hours a day for the project work for 60 days, as mentioned in the program description. I plan to prioritize my schedule and allocate sufficient time for the project work while managing other commitments.
3. What are your expectations from the faculty member you have selected as your preference for guiding summer interns?
   Answer: As a summer intern, I would expect my faculty member to guide me in my research project, provide me with relevant literature and research materials, and help me develop my skills in the research field. I would also appreciate constructive feedback and suggestions from my mentor to improve my work.
4. How do you plan to overcome any challenges you may face during the program, such as lack of hostel accommodation or limited resources?
   Answer: I understand that IISER Kolkata will not provide hostel accommodation for offline summer students, but I plan to arrange my own accommodation if permitted by the project supervisor. If there are any resource constraints, I will work with my mentor to explore alternative resources and find solutions to overcome the challenges.
5. What are your future career aspirations and how do you think the IISER-K Summer Student Research Programme will help you achieve them?
   Answer: My future career aspirations include pursuing a research-oriented career in the field of science and technology. The IISER-K Summer Student Research Programme will provide me with exposure to a research environment and help me develop my research skills. The program will also provide me with a platform to interact with renowned faculty members and peers from diverse backgrounds, which will broaden my perspectives and help me achieve my career aspirations.
