The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is currently seeking applications from Indian nationals for the position of ‘Junior Research Fellow’ to carry out research work on the Metabolomics approach to decipher aflatoxin resistance mechanism in peanut against Aspergillus flavus infection under Cluster- Cell and Molecular Biology and Trait Engineering, Global Research Program- Accelerated Crop Improvement.

Responsibilities –
- Perform scientific research work related to sample collection, metabolite isolation, data analysis and interpretation;
- Perform gene expression analysis, pathogen maintenance, and ELISA;
- Provide help and support to the various research activities in the greenhouse and field experiments related to the transgenic crops;
- Assist the scientist in preparing the reports and manuscripts;
- Collaborate with research technicians within the cluster and also from other clusters/ disciplines as per the project requirement;
- Execute experiments related to metabolomics in adherence to the defined schedules and timeline, in compliance with the institute policies;
- Reporting and maintaining accurate and high-quality data files required to prepare project reports;
Qualifications and Experience –
- Post Graduate degree in Biology/ Biotechnology degrees. Candidate with GATE/ NET score will be preferred;
- Experience in Metabolomics, Molecular biology and working experience on plant-Pathogen interactions is desirable;
- Additional skills – Bioinformatics and Tissue culture will be added advantage;
Technical Competencies/ Key Skills –
- Technical competencies to work on molecular biology techniques, plant tissue culture and transformation of the designated crop.
- Liaison with programs and coordinating abilities.
- Proficiency in English communication skills (both written and spoken).
- Proficiency in basic computer skills.
- Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in a multicultural team.
- Ability to deal tactfully under pressure situations, deliver under tight schedules, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Multi-language competency will be an added advantage.
Additional / Preferred Skills –
- Support the scientist in writing the technical reports.
- Responsible for timely completing the assigned activities.
- PCR, genomic DNA isolation, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, metabolite extraction, and operating LC-MS.
- Coordinate with other staff members for troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of lab equipment as necessary.
