To reward young women scientists (below age 40) who have excelled in science and got recognition from any of the National Science Academies (given below) in India, Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) has launched a scheme called “SERB Women Excellence Award”.

1. Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi
2. Indian Academy of Science, Bangalore
3. National Academy of Science, Allahabad
4. Indian National Academy of Engineering, New Delhi
5. National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi
6. National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi

Eligibility 

• Only for Women Scientists.
• The age of the applicant should not exceed 40 years as of the submission date.
• Applicant must be having recognition from any one or more of the following national academies such as Young Scientist Medal, Young Associate etc.

  4. Indian National Academy of Engineering, New Delhi
  5. National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

Nature of support –

• Research grant of Rs. 5 lakhs per annum and Rs 1 lakh per annum as overhead charges for a period of three years.

Selection & Mode of Application 

• The proposal must be submitted online through the website www.serbonline.in
• Call for proposal would be made once a year.
• Verification of eligibility criteria will be carried out by SERB. Only those applications found eligible would be considered for Award Selection.

Instructions for Online Submissions

For successful online submission of the proposal the following points may be noted:

• PI need to register in the SERB online portal click here to register.
• After login, Go to Menu-> ‘Form Submission’.
• Choose Scheme: WEA
• Once submitted, PI will receive an intimation regarding the successful submission.

Q1: I have received many awards but not from the National Academies. Am I eligible to apply for SERB Women Excellence Award / SERB Women Scientist?

A1: No. Women scientists below 40 years of age who have received recognition such as the Young Scientist Medal, Young Associate etc., from any one or more of the national academies only would be considered for SERB Women Excellence Award

Q2: How often the awards will be granted?

A2: Call for proposals would be made and awards would be granted once a year.

Q3: Is there any age limit for PI to be eligible for the award?

A3: The age of the applicant should not exceed 40 years as of the submission date.
