Monoclonal antibody Cocktail Effective Against severe COVID-19
AIG Hospitals, in collaboration with the Asian Healthcare Foundation, CCMB Hyderabad, and the Institute of Life Sciences, have successfully demonstrated that monoclonal therapy reduces critical morbidity and mortality in high-risk people infected with the Delta Variant of SARS-CoV-2 by 100%, it is the world’s first reported research, in his regard. The study included 285 participants from Fever Clinic, AIG Hospital.
Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals, stated that the results are astounding and will shape public health policy for COVID-19 treatment, particularly in high-risk people, who are above 60 years or even under 60 years with diabetes, hypertension, obesity, pregnant women, and people with chronic diseases. The study showed that Monoclonal Therapy effectively stops the progression of the disease when given at the correct time.
This study was carried out by 3 major scientific organizations. The research was conceptualized, planned, and backed by AIG Hospitals and its R&D department, the Asian Healthcare Foundation. Samples were tested for the viral load before and after therapy, and other vital parameters like inflammatory markers were determined.
The CCMB sequenced the genomes of the virus samples and confirmed whether it was Delta Variant. The cocktail’s neutralizing potential
against the delta variant was tested by the Institute of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad.Officials from Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories stated that when they consider the expense of hospitalization due to COVID-19 in India, as well as the number of people living with diabetes, hypertension, and other diseases, the cost factor of monoclonal therapy is pretty reasonable, given that its death and severe disease prevention rate is 100 %.
They further added that they are now investigating the efficacy of this drug cocktail in hospitalized patients, as well as the potential use of this therapy as prophylaxis.
