The ecology and evolution group at BLiSC requires facilities that allow access to study biodiversity and ecosystems (field stations), and the ability to systematically catalogue biodiversity (research collections). Further, access to biodiversity and its collection provides an opportunity to create exhibits for outreach and public dissemination of science (museum). This facility is appropriately named the Museums and Field stations facility (MFS). Currently, the MFS includes one field station at Pachmarhi in Central India as well a research collection with many thousand dry specimens and wet specimens. The facility also manages exhibit space used for outreach activities across the campus.

We seek to hire a co-ordinator cum academic manager for this facility.

a. Minimum qualifications: MSc or PhD in Zoology, Entomology, Ecology, Biodiversity, Taxonomy, etc., fields related to taxonomy, systematics, and/or museum sciences.

b. Minimum experience: At least two years of experience in natural history museums in the capacity of scientist or curator and at least four years of experience in field studies. Experience of writing scientific papers, technical reports and/or popular articles, and/or creation of outreach materials such as exhibits, posters and handbooks is desired.

c. Minimum skills required: (i) Expertise in taxonomy and systematics, (ii) understanding of specimen collection and curation protocols, (iii) technical expertise in managing natural history museums, (iv) Microsoft Office applications or equivalent for data management, report writing and presentations, and Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent for graphic designing and creation of outreach materials, (v) interpersonal skills for museum outreach (vi) good managerial skills for handling personnel (vii) academic skills and experience with designing, organizing and conducting workshops and training programs in taxonomy and systematics.

d. Nature of work: (i) Management of the MFS facility, including supervision of staff at the field stations and research collections, (ii) facilitation of field station operations and research activities, (iii) technical assistance and advice in field research projects of NCBS labs, (iv) management of visitors (scientific and public), public outreach activities, etc., (v) managing links with relevant government bodies such as forest departments, National Biodiversity Authority, other museums and research groups, (vi) Providing taxonomic expertise in the identification of fauna and flora, especially insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and plants (vii) training of students and other facility users, (viii) report writing, monthly accounts, administrative duties, appraisals etc. (ix) creating a high-quality taxonomy and systematics research environment and academic space including organizing workshops and courses.

e. Salary scale: commensurate with educational degree and experience in the field.
