Helpline number for women in science
On international women’s day, a helpline number has been introduced for women entrepreneurs, scientists, researchers, and students. The Helpline number is 011-2656 5285, which will help all the women to get their doubts cleared and inquiries answered pertaining to programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST). Currently, this Helpline will be available during office hours (09:30 am to 05:30 pm) on working days and will provide help to women scientists of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Science and Health and Family Welfare said, “It is very important that females should take benefits of the plans readily available for them and explore the opportunities in science. All the women researchers, as well as students, can obtain information regarding the schemes on one dedicated number. This will likewise help them to pursue their profession and also if they are finding any problem with fellowships they can obtain assistance from here”. “As a society, we have to move from tokenism to totalism, especially when it pertains to produce a gender parity culture in Indian science. He added, “Various special schemes have been started to
attract women and to provide employment opportunities in science as a result of the recent focus on women empowerment by the government“.This year, the National Science Day’s theme was ‘Women in Science’. Three key initiatives for equality and gender advancement in academics and research was announced by President Ram Nath Kovind on National Science Day.
The three initiatives announced by the President are an online portal for science and technology resources for women, Vigyan Jyoti, and Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI). The online portal will be a platform to provide e-resources related to all scholarships, fellowships, women-specific government schemes, career counseling with details of experts of the concerned subject from various disciplines in science and technology. The second initiative, Vigyan Jyoti will certainly be a level-playing field for meritorious girl students in high school to pursue STEM subjects in their college. The next initiative GATI will certainly develop a thorough charter and a structure for evaluating gender inequality in STEM.
