Coronavirus: First Confirmed Case in India

Kerala reports the first confirmed coronavirus case in India. On Thursday, the Union Health ministry confirmed India’s first case of coronavirus in Kerala.

A student studying at Wuhan University, China, who came back to Kerala was tested positive for the coronavirus infection.

The health ministry said, “In Kerala, one positive case of coronavirus patient of a student studying at Wuhan University has been reported today. The patient is kept in the isolation ward in the Thrissur General Hospital. The female patient is stable and is being closely monitored.”

The health officials said that the student had sought medical help on January 24 and was among the four quarantined students, and the results of the rest 3 students are yet to come. They also added that the symptoms are not severe and the person is stable.

An emergency meeting has been scheduled by the State health minister, KK Shailaja.

For the tests, 20 samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune and out of that, 10 samples were found to be negative and one positive case of coronavirus. The first test is positive and reports of further tests are awaited from the lab

. 806 cases are under observation and they are house quarantined and 10 people are hospitalized.

The officials will be backtracing every possible individual who might have come in contact with the infected student.

Meanwhile, in New Delhi, three patients admitted to the Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital were discharged on Thursday after being tested negative of the coronavirus infection. These three patients were kept under tight health monitoring and isolation since Monday for the medical treatment after they complained of respiratory illness. The medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Meenakshi Bhardwaj said, ” The three patients admitted are of the age 48, 34 and 24. Two patients had returned from a business work trip to China and one patient is a student.”

On Wednesday, the central government issued an important travel advisory asking people to refrain from traveling to China, in the wake of rising cases of the virus.

So far, India has tested 28 samples for the deadly coronavirus infection.

In a Chinese city of more than 11 million people, Wuhan, this deadly infection was originated and since then the novel coronavirus has spread to various countries around the world.

Around 7,783 people have been infected with the virus so far and the death toll has gone up to 170 deaths.

As the virus continues to spread, with cases reported in the United States, France, Australia, and several Asian countries besides China, the health authorities around the world are taking action to prevent a global pandemic.
