The British Council, in partnership with the Departments of Science and Technology (DST) and Biotechnology (DBT), invites applications for funding support for short term placements in United Kingdom (UK) and Indian associations between March to October 2019.
Aims of this Programme:
The placement offer supplies financing to Indian and UK PhD scholars for a period of two to four months of Their research in any UK or even Indian higher education establishment. Because of engaging in global academic networks, it builds the capacity of people, raises cultural understanding and boosts sustainable research collaborations.
The Programme Aims to:
- Provide individual professional improvement through global development and training Chances
- Increase the amount of highly trained investigators in the united kingdom and India with global Expertise, able to donate to the absorptive capacity for innovation and research and thus lead to economic and societal advantages
- Develop global joint training pathways
- Raise awareness of the research strengths of the united kingdom and India
Priority Sectors:
Applications are encouraged in STEM and Life Sciences topics such as the’grand challenges’ Regions and underpinning skills identified with the UK-India Task Force on Science and Innovation, that can be:
- Biological and Medical sciences such as Life sciences, Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Medicine, Pharma and Chemical Sciences
- Engineering and Physical sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Physical Mathematics, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Big info and Manufacturing
- Environment, Food and Agriculture Sciences
- Public health and wellbeing
Qualification Criteria:
UK nationals employing:
- Scholars pursuing their PhD in a UK higher education institution. Please see listing of eligible institutions under downloads section.
Indian nationals applying:
The scheme is available Just for Indian scholars registered at Indian higher education establishment with following standards:
- INSPIRE PhD Senior Research Fellows (SRFs) of Batch 2015 – STEM and Life Sciences.
- PhD Scholars (besides INSPIRE Fellows) that have qualified via a nationwide level evaluation and Are pursuing PhD in mid third or second year of Life Sciences. The following national level evaluations are believed: CSIR/UGC-NET, GATE, BET, ICMR-NET, ICAR-NET

Financial Support Provided:
- visa fee
- Economy class international airfares (from as well as country of residence)
- Overseas health insurance incurred by applicants
- In-country prices including lodging (according to details supplied in call recommendations )
- A stipend paid monthly

Application Process:
Submit your application using endorsements from both sending and receiving relevant Heads of Department (or equivalent). Additionally, the receiving organization should affirm that they’ll sponsor, provide particulars of the term of stay and number of seat fees, if charged (applicable only for UK host colleges ).
