Research Admissions 2017-18 – December Session @ VIT University
Teaching at VIT University is structured around thirteen schools of study. A student should register in one of the schools, depending on the degree/programme he/she is interested in pursuing. Research centers are also part of the schools, encouraging inter-departmental collaboration and opportunity for students to participate in exciting research projects. The university offers 36 Undergraduate, 31 Postgraduate, 4 Integrated Programmes and 3 Research programmes. In addition to full-time/part-time Ph.D., M.Tech (BY RESEARCH) Degrees in Engineering and Management Disciplines, Ph.D., in Science and Languages, Integrated Ph.D. programmes are also offered for engineering disciplines in selected schools.
Categories:
a. Internal full-time Candidates: A candidate who wishes to work for Ph.D degree on full time (including project staff working in sponsored projects being carried out at the institute) should apply in the prescribed form on or before due dates to be announced normally once every year.
b. Internal part-time candidates: All the staff members of the institute having the requisite minimum qualifications can work on a part time basis for Ph.D degree. They should apply in the prescribed form on or before the dates to be announced normally once
every year.c. External part-time candidates: Teachers working in other colleges in a permanent position and candidates sponsored by R & D organisations, National laboratories and Industries having R & D facilities recognized by DSIR, with requisite minimum qualifications can work on part time basis for Ph.D degree but they should apply in the prescribed form on or before the specified dates, to be announced normally once every year.
Eligibility:
a. Ph.D. in Engineering: Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Business Administration with a first class or a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5 on a 10 – point scale) or equivalent like M.Sc (Engineering) / M.S. by Research.
b. Ph.D. in Sciences / Humanities / Languages: Master’s degree with a minimum 60% in Sciences / Humanities / Social Sciences Master’s degree with a minimum 55% in Languages.
School of Bio Sciences and Technology:
Bioinformatics, Biomedical sciences, Biomolecules and genetics, Environmental biotechnology, Industrial biotechnology, Medical biotechnology, Plant biotechnology.
Procedure:
a. Applications will be invited by open advertisement in all leading news papers / local announcement for all categories of candidates mentioned in section 2.
b. Doctoral and M.Phil. candidates should take VITREE (VIT Research Entrance Examination) choosing a field of their specialization. Candidates for Integrated PhD and M.Tech. by Research programmes should take VITMEE (VIT Masters’ Entrance Examination) in the field of specialization.
c. Selected candidates will be called for a personal interview to be conducted at the campus where the admission is sought.
d. Final Selection will be based on the overall merit index of the candidate which will be arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at Master’s level and the performance in the written test, research output and / the performance in personal interview.
Selection Procedure:
The PhD applicants along with the printed copy of application and necessary enclosures, should also submit a proposal containing field of Research, Proposed Title of the work, Research Problem, Scientific Background, Research Gap, Novelty:, Objectives, Methodology, Research time Plan (Chart): and Possible outcome. This will also be assessed for selection.
The PhD candidates, who satisfy the criteria prescribed, shall appear for VITREE (VIT Research Entrance Examination) in the appropriate subject which will be a computer based test (CBT) for 2 hours on 3rd of December 2017.
The question paper will have 100 MCQs (Technical – 70 questions; English communication skills – 15 questions; Statistics
and probability – 15 questions).
Change of Test city or programme will not be permitted
