The International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) is a global, not-for-profit, public-private product development partnership organization whose mission is to ensure development of safe, effective and accessible preventive HIV vaccines for use throughout the world. Over the last 15 years, IAVI has been instrumental in building bridges between diverse sectors, creating a unique end-to-end network of global partnerships with stakeholders in 25 countries that ensure participation across regions and domains to accelerate HIV vaccine design and development, and ensure that a vaccine is made available and utilized by those who need it most.
IAVI in India is focused on facilitating unique partnerships and inter-disciplinary collaborations with key stakeholders nationally and globally towards accelerating the design and development of affordable and accessible HIV vaccines and other biomedical tools of prevention to help address diseases of public health interest in India and globally. These partnerships nurture emerging science; support capacity and capability building through trainings, information exchange and technology transfer, and assist in strengthening implementation science capacity to aid in alleviating the health-burden created by these diseases.

Position Summary :
IAVI is currently seeking qualified
applicants for the position of a Consultant. The Consultant would engage in the design and coordination of research initiatives/programs in India (along with Africa and other global partners) that will accelerate development of novel solutions for HIV prevention and vaccine design through interdisciplinary multi-sectoral partnerships and regional training and capacity building networks.Broad areas of research would include:
- Translational studies focused on understanding of the disease using next generation technologies in molecular virology, human genome studies and systems immunology;
- Delineating host-pathogen interactions by characterization of molecular signatures, including identification of biomarkers associated with HIV disease progression and immune/viral control; B/T-cell immunology; and host and viral dynamics.
- Design of population-based intervention studies for HIV management, including HIV-immunogen design and development of HIV prevention and combination therapies (e.g., monoclonal antibodies, PrEP/long acting ARVs);
- Studies on co-infections and co-morbidities, including drug resistance and cost effectiveness of current solutions.
The role offers global exposure combined with opportunity for program management. It allows participation in various programs of national significance with assistance from India Team, including the Country Director and IAVI’s global experts.
Specifically the consultant would:
- Aid in outlining research studies of regional (African and Indian) relevance towards HIV prevention research and vaccine design;
- Conduct qualitative research to outline effective global collaborations and build partnership platforms with new international partners through focused programmatic efforts;
- Work with the team to outline capacity and capability building efforts including specific trainings, technology transfer and knowledge sharing activities and setting up linkages for product design and development through industry-academia involvements;
- Manage relations with existing internal and external stakeholders including national and international advisors and experts and assist in writing grants and program
Exemplary Skills Required:
- Evidence of scientific training, ideally a life science-related PhD from a top institution;
- Experience ( 1 – 2 years) in the design of vaccines and monoclonal antibodies (preferably in HIV);
- Expertise and relevant experience in one or more of the following areas including immunology/virology/ /bioinformatics/systems biology/other allied fields;
- Understanding of the product development value chain, particularly for vaccines and monoclonal antibodies; and familiarity with skills, technologies, infrastructure critical for the same;
- Outstanding analytical skills; ability to do deep primary research, analyse and draw conclusions;
- Excellent organizational skills; strong interpersonal relationship skills; must have excellent communication skills – both written and verbal;
- Ability to navigate conversations with external stakeholders;
- Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications;
- Maturity and poise to interact with senior leaderships in industry and academia;
- Highly organized and proactive with a strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask; be quick on your feet and highly responsive;
- Enjoy both working independently and collaboratively in a small collegial team environment with honesty, integrity, intellectual curiosity.
