Integrated Doctor of Philosophy (IP) programme at IISER Kolkata is a combination programme which starts with a comprehensive Masters programme (MS) followed by a research programme (PhD). Individual Department selects deserving candidates from the pool of applicants based on their academic backgrounds and their performance in the selection test.
Offered Majors: Biological, Chemical, Geological, Mathematical and Physical Sciences.
Scholarship: All selected students are offered a monthly scholarship.
Integrated PhD Programme
Eligibility: Students with a B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.B.B.S. or an equivalent degree from any recognized University/Institute/College can apply for the Integrated PhD Programme in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physical Sciences.
Candidates need to secure a minimum of 60% marks/equivalent grades in Honours/Major (if applicable), or 60% marks/equivalent grades in Aggregate (if Honours/Major is not applicable). Those who are appearing in the final examination of their degree course can also apply; for them, the eligibility marks are 60% based on the marks obtained in the undergraduate examinations held so far. The qualifying marks for SC/ST/OBC candidates are 50% as per Central Government relaxation policy.

The short-listed candidates will be called to an interview for selection. Candidates must apply through the online portal only.
Students applying for the Integrated PhD Programme are required to have the following subject(s) in the undergraduate courses:

When to apply: For the Autumn Session (starts from the end of July, 2017), candidates should apply online latest by 3 May 2017.
How to apply: The applicants should open the link at the bottom of this page (Submit New Application) and properly fill the application form as instructed and submit. Applicants should save the properly filled application form and take a print as the hard copy of the application.
Names of candidates shortlisted for interview for Integrated PhD programme for the year 2017-18 will be published in IISER Kolkata website on 12 May 2017.The interview will be conducted during the week from 12 to 18 June 2017.
Documents required: Selected candidates for interview should bring a printout of application form along with the required documents listed below at the time of interview:
1. Attested copies of mark sheets and certificates of all examinations starting from secondary examination.
2. Original/Self Attested copy of the qualifying examination certificate
3. Confidential recommendation letters of assessment (signed hardcopy) of the applicant from two teachers who have taught courses and would be able to evaluate the student as a potential research worker. The teachers should seal the envelopes and sign across the flaps.
4. Proof of qualification in nationwide aptitude tests
5. Photo identity
6. Proof of age
7. Statement of Purpose mentioning research interest and potential supervisors (if any)
Selection procedure: Institute-level committee(s) will scrutinize all the applications, and prepare a shortlist of candidates, who will be called for an interview. The Institute will finally declare the list of selected candidates on the Institute website. Students will be given a monthly fellowship. For candidates whose final examination marks are not available at the time of interview, admission to the programme will be provisional.
They must produce their final mark sheet to Academic Cell showing that they have secured a minimum of 60% marks/equivalent grades in Honours/Major (if applicable), or 60% marks/equivalent grades in Aggregate (if Honours/Major is not applicable) within 60 days of their admission.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on Integrated PhD Programme
(1) What is the amount of Fellowship?
Fellowship of Rs 10,000.00 per month will be given in the first two years. On successful completion of the first two years’ academic programme and clearing the comprehensive examination for the PhD Programme, the students will be awarded a Junior Research Fellowship and HRA, if applicable.

(3) Is there any exit Policy after Masters degree?
The Institute will offer a dual (MS and PhD) degree to students, based on the evaluation of the PhD thesis. The process of evaluation will be as per the regulations of IISER Kolkata. After successful completion of the first three years of the IP Programme, a student may seek to exit with a ‘Master of Science in Integrated PhD Programme’ degree.
