NOTIFICATION NO. 1/2017
Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, invites applications from candidates who are Indian citizens, to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D. Degree. The projects offered for Ph.D. would be in the broad areas of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Developmental Biology, Plant Molecular Biology, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Protein Structure and Function, Biology of Macromolecules, Biology of Infection, Epigenetics, Chromatin Biology and Bioinformatics.
Eligibility criteria: CCMB PhD Program
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in any branch of science and a valid National level fellowship (JRF/SRF of CSIR, UGC, DBT, ICMR, etc.), DST-INSPIRE or any other equivalent fellowship for pursuing Ph.D.
- Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Pharmacy or Medicine and a valid fellowship for pursuing a Ph.D. degree are also eligible to apply.
- Candidates with a BE/B.Tech degree in Biotechnology or in any engineering discipline must have a GATE score of at least 85.0 percentile.
- B.Pharm degree candidates must have a GPAT score of at least 85.0 percentile.
- A valid fellowship is an ABSOLUTE requirement for pursuing Ph.D. at CCMB.
- Candidates with lecturer-ship only in CSIR-UGC (NET) examination need not apply.
- M.Sc/M.Tech/M.Pharm candidates qualified in GATE/GPAT are not eligible to apply.
- Upper age limit is 28 years as on 17-04-2017, which is relaxable by 5 years as per the Govt. of India rule for SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically Handicapped candidates.

Written Test and Interview:
- Online applications will be screened and the eligible candidates will be called for a computer based written test at one of their preferred centers among the 19 test centers across the country on 04-05-2017.
- Candidates qualifying in the written test will be called to appear for interview at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad on 29-05-2017 (preliminary) and 30-05-2017 (final).
Note:
- There is no walk-in for the written test.
- Candidates will have to make their own arrangements for travel, stay, etc. at the examination centre and/or in Hyderabad for interviews. Travelling allowance is not payable by CCMB.
- Mere fulfillment of the minimum requirements stipulated in the notification would not automatically entitle a person for selection. The decision of CCMB in this regard shall be final. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as a disqualification.

Eligibility for CDFD PhD Program:
To be eligible all the candidates must have:
- Master’s degree in any branch of Science, Technology, or Agriculture from a recognized University/ Institute OR MBBS. Candidates who have appeared for their final semester examination, but are awaiting results, are also eligible to apply.
- Qualified CSIR / UGC / DBT / ICMR / INSPIRE NET JRF / UGC – RGNF (or similar) or have qualified BINC examination conducted by the DBT with fellowship or GATE (All India Top 50 Ranks in Biotechnology [BT], Life Sciences [XL] or Chemistry [CY]) or JEST. Candidates having qualified for the Project – JRF fellowship under the ICMR funded project Scheme/ [which is only for a period of two years] / DBT JRF NET with a B.Tech. [Biotechnology] degree /DBT JRF NET under DBT – B category list are NOT eligible to apply. MBBS candidates are exempted from any of the eligibility tests mentioned herein but must be below the age of 28 years as on the last date for receipt of application.
- Candidates with LS-NET qualification only in CSIR-UGC (NET) examination need not apply.
Application Procedure:
Interested candidates (including those who have appeared for the JGEEBILS-2017) need to register their names for RESEARCH SCHOLARS PROGRAM – I – 2017 by applying in the prescribed application form.
The Online application facility will open on March 28, 2017 and will be closed on April 17, 2017..
The CCMB/CDFD Joint Entrance Examination will be held on May 4, 2017.
Online application fee is Rs. 500 (for GEN), Rs. 250 only for OBC (Non-creamy layer). No fee for ST/SC/PH.
The CDFD-LAN and CDFD-JGEEBILS shortlists will be displayed on the CDFD website on May 8, 2017.
Interviews will be conducted at CDFD, Hyderabad on May 31 and June 1, 2017.
Note:

- As the CDFD-JGEEBILS shortlist will be displayed only on 8th May, 2017, candidates who have appeared for the JGEEBILS-2017 exam are encouraged to appear for the CCMB/CDFD Joint Entrance Examination to be held on May 4, 2017.

The Individual Admit Card / Hall Ticket with details of user name, password, venue of the examination and time will be sent through e-mail. No individual intimation letter would be sent. No TA/DA will be paid. Director, CDFD reserves the right to accept / reject any or all applications without assigning any reasons whatsoever.
